We have a vegetarian household but DH and I were vegie before DS came along so in that respect it is easier. My advice would be to cut things down gradually. So start making vegetarian meals and experimenting with non-meat alternatives but don't go cold turkey (no pun intended!). After a while you will have built up a bank of vege recipes that you know family members will like and the transition will be easier. The hardest days for us are ones like Xmas but we now make an awesome nut roast and even though our extended family eat meat they will also eat the nut roast - because it tastes good!
