    Nahhh you burn the beans with the hot water and make it all bitter - yukkkooo.
    Definitely milk first in this house!

    Well I settled on buying a plunger and some ground beans...instead of instant...I STILL want our machine fixed, though!

    The only good thing about my own plunger is that I can drink whatever coffee I like, and not whatever bean blend DH has in the machine :-P

    LOL I don't think instant coffee has any hint in it that it ever came from a bean!

    Okay, it does, but it still tastes bad hehehe.

    That's ok - I'm definitely not a coffee snob - I can't stand the ones at cafe's cos its too bitter and strong for me.. LOL

    another maccona fan here.. i may be odd but I actually prefer instant coffee over brewed stuff (unless its take away from a shop).

    Ok, well I have no opinion on coffee brand, but it has to be mild roast here.

    BUT...the thing about the hot water is a furphy...the instant coffee is made using superheated extraction processes...your boiling water doesn't make the coffee any hotter than it already would be. BUT it's likely that in putting the milk in first you're adding more than if you put it in last, and hence the flavour difference.
