Mince Recipes - Why Is It Hard To Find A Good One!

Alrighties, I said to DH that I'd cook something for dinner tonight using mince - problem is, I don't wanna cook meatballs, can't cook homemade hamburgers (he can't eat the buns - he's got the lap band) and he's got a small allergy to tomatoes so I can't cook bolognese (sp?)
So what I'm asking is, is there any way I can cook something really nice and out of the ordinary with the mince besides meatballs, hamburgers and homemade pies?
And if so, can you give me a recipe? I'm searching all over the net!

    Mince wellington...

Its a jamie recipe you make up the mince like a pastie mixture with peas, carrot, celery egg and herbs then you wrap it in puff pastry and cook it and carve it. Its really good with mash, steamed veg and gravy

I know you said you don't want meatballs but what about meatball stroganoff... thats really nice as well.

Most caseroles you can do with meat you can do with meatballs.

    San Choi bow?

    Chow mein?

    Morrocan mince with cous cous?

My sister browns the mince, chucks in some mint peas, and stirs through a Korma sauce - it is now my FAVOURITE meal

If hubby's allergic to tomatoes, you might wanna check the Korma ingredients though.

You could also try Shepherds Pie? I saw a great recipe for it that had sweet potato instead of regular potato - yum!!

Salad - Yeah, thank goodness he can eat baked beans

SG - Thanks for the suggestion - I might have a look at the Korma sauce - he just cant eat the tomato itself. He's fine with tomato sauce and tomato paste and the such, just not tomatos himself

Rouge - I really like the sound of the Mince Wellington! Oh it sounds so good that my mouth is watering! I'd thought about chow mein, but dunno how DH would be with it (and I've only ever made chow mein with chicken before)

ok well here is a recipe that is a bit different yummy and filling that you might like and usually everything is in the pantry:

    Cowboy Casserole

    500g Lean beef mince
    1 onion
    2 cans baked beans
    1/2 tbls worstershire sauce
1 tsp beef stock powder or 1 stock cube
    1/2 tsp cumin
    1/4 tsp chilli powder
    pinch of oregano
    1 tbsp tomato paste
    1 cup cooked macaroni drained
    1 cup grated cheese

    pre heat oven to 180degree
Brown mince, add onion cook until soft
mix in two tins baked beans
the spices, worstershire sauce and tomato paste sprinkle in stock powder, mix really well then add cooked macaroni
pour the whole lot into an ovenproof casserole dish and cover with grated cheese.
heat in oven until cheese has melted

You can change this recipe to suit how you like it I add mixed herbs and if you dont have macaroni any other pasta will do the trick. You might have to add some cornflour to thicken it up but you will know best.

    You could also try meatloaf

    Hope that helps.

Hope its what your looking for
