Ok this is embarrassing.. but I need help!

Ok, I scored a bargain last night at woolies and picked up a roast beef topside type of meat thing - trouble is - I've never cooked a roast before and don't know how long to cook it for and at what temp.

I have an easy cooker type thing that is like a little oven that sits on the bench - fan forced type of thing - thats how my mum does all of hers, and thats why I have one - but I don't even have the instruction manual for it. So not only do I not have the knowledge of how to COOK a roast in the first place, I also don't know how to use my easy cooker to do it!!! LOL

Does anyone out there either have an easy cooker they can help me with temps and stuff (could just be the same as a normal fan forced oven??) and how long to cook the piece of meat for?

I dont know about the easy cooker thing... but if you did it in the oven you would do it at about 180 - 200 for a couple of hrs depending on the size of the meat.

I cook roast chickens in the over at about 180 - 200 for 2 -3 hrs...

Its about 1.14kg in weight - so its not a HUGE piece of meat or anything. My mum just took a panicked call from me saying OMG WHAT THE HELL DO I DO MUM - and she's like, um dunno, I'd have to check my book... rofl.. thanks!!!!

But she said that she does chooks for 1.5 hours (size 9) on 230 degrees - so is it the same for cooking roast beef as for chooks? lol... I've never cooked a roast chook either!!! PMSL

No slow cooker here mate - just easy cooker thing.

I have an oven, but I'm just assuming it works - haven't used it here yet.. LOL

Ok well a size 9 chicken is 900gm (the number relates to the grams) so you're going to have to put it on longer than that, maybe 2 hours?? I'm not real sure sorry hun.

Preheat it to 180, drizzle with olive oil salt and pepper stick it in a tray and put it in.

The problem with these little buggers is you can burn the top, so you will have to turn it over after about 50 mins. It will probably take about 2 hours. So get it on now.

Do you have a normal oven?

Ok, in the oven its usually 180 C & 60 mins for every kilo of meat.

So whack yours in for an hour and then check it after that by sticking a knife in and if it comes out bloody etc, then keep it in there a bit longer.

Hope that helps, it really is easy, even if the first time is daunting....(I didn't cook roasts until a couple of years ago and now I'm an ace!)

I was in the same boat last week ( but not with an easy cooker ) Am not a roast type of gal so had no idea what to do with what I'd bought.

Luckily the M&T Roast Beef I'd bought had instructions on it! Don't know if it makes a difference the cut but it said to do the 1kg roast in a fan forced oven at 180C (so 200 for non fan forced) for an hour then pull it out cover with foil and rest it for 15 minutes. B I though it was a little too pink in the middle for my liking) so I'd do it for another 10 minutes if again. I have a slow cooker but no idea how it works - try googling easy cooker's brand and see if you can get the instruction manual?

In a normal oven it's about an hour for every kilo (at about 180) for a roast, depending on whether you like your meat well done, medium or rare. We tend to go with medium-well, so you might want a little longer than that. Turn the meat a couple of times if your oven is making anything look black!

If you're roasting vegies as well, potatoes need almost as long as the meat (sometimes longer if it's a smallish piece), so don't wait too long to put them in.

We use plenty of olive oil and a marinade (if the butcher sells it with one LOL) on the meat, just oil on the vegies.

I have no idea on the easy cooker, but I'd google it!

NO suggestions with times etc but if you go to google and google the name and model of your easy cooker along with instruction manual, you might find one online.. works for me when we were given a slow cooker without one.

ie. instruction manual, kambrook 4xxx

Yes, chicken is at a lower temp (about 160). 180 for a fan forced oven for beef or lamb. Higher if the over is not fan forced.

But I don't pretend to be an expert - DP is the cook in our house!

I always cook mine at 200 uncovered covered (I also do a few pockets of garlic cloves and rosemary) in 1cm of oil and turn every 30 min for 90 min then wrap the meat in so foil and some juices and continue cooking at 150 for another 60 min.
