Merlot and Shiraz are quite fruity. Might be a good place to start?
Ok, so I am wanting to know what red wine should I buy to help wean myself into drinking red wine?
I have always been a spirits (rum or vodka), beer (lights) & white wine (sweet not dry) type of girl!
Hearing that red wine is better for you than any other types of alcohol I want to give it a go!!
So what red do I buy first? What's something sweet but not too "tart"??
Thanks guys. Be gentle on meoh and this is for me, not cooking lol

Oh, and does it really make your teeth stained???is that if you drink too much or don't brush your teeth?? lol
My parents are wine makers :-) they do a cab sav mixed with a Shiraz grape. I'm not a big red fan either but I don't mind a glass every now and then in winterI'd start with a Shiraz.
Thanks girls!! And any brands you recommend too![]()
I started on Cab Sav. Have to disagree with you Amy_jellybean, I still haven't graduated to Shiraz, its too spicy and strong for me I hate it lol. Where are you Shanti? I recommend going to some wineries for tastings - fun day out too![]()
Brown brothers have a couple of light reds I love. Will find the names....
My fav is Howard Park cab sav. Smooth *drool* oh what I'd do for a wine right now. Can't think of any more sorry..
I like a good bourbon, and loove a sweet white wine moiself
When I decided to pop my red wine cherry I was advised to try Houghtons Dolcetto & Syrah (sp?). They were right, it is delish, and perfect for a beginner or sweet tooth, I know that because i've never pulled that 'i've just bitten into a sour lemon' face, ever.
Try it, and get back to me
x
Browns Brothers Dolcetto and Syrah is a good one.
oh yeah, do some tastings.
love a good shiraz, I do, but that probably wouldn't be your cup of tea if you're into sweet whites!
Amy! Winemakers...? Do tell
Personal Jinx Rouge![]()
The Man is definitely not what I'd call a red wine fan, but recently when he was out he discovered Brown Brothers "Dolcetto". He described it as a "red moscato". So, sweet, not tart! I'd try that! I'm hanging out to try it when we stop bf.
^ What Rouge said. Try a sweet red first until you build up your taste.
Ooh, Taylors reds (from the Barossa) are divine. The merlot is extremely smooth. We are big red drinkers and only recently discovered these and can't stop buying them!![]()
Yeah I drink dry whites so I think that's why I like Shiraz. If you like sweet whites I won't bore you with my fav's in red because we have different tastes I think
Mad B - yeah they don't do a bad drophave a pink/ white cab about to be bottled in 2 weeks, can't wait to taste it but will only be a sip until bubba is here. Wine is the thing I miss the most while preggie! Alco much Hahahaha!!!!
