Default sandwich fillings for a 1 year old

vegemite is getting a bit boring, as much as he loves it i don't like giving it too often due to the saly content.

what other suggestions do people have? I want something that will keep the bread reasonable well stuck together, nothing that will fall apart too easily IYKWIM

    Chicken and avacado
Anything with egg and bit of mayo for binding (eg Corn and Zucchini)
Anything with creamed cheese. Chop finely and mix through the cheese
Tuna mixed with something binding (see above)

I use all those that Natalie suggested, plus mashed banana, peanut butter when they were a bit older and cheese.

Alexzander loves a crunchy bread roll with avocado on it

Another favourite here is a wrap made with chicken, corn, cheese & a tiny bit of mayo.

Fairy Bread!!! Ok so it's not high on the nutritional content, but it's good for the odd occasion.

Just a warning on nutella, it contains peanut oil, so it's not really recommended until later.

he he...fairy bread...DH would eat it all before Milo got a look in! LOL

We will be avoiding nutella and all nut butters til a bit later.

Hommous is a great idea though, as we always have that on hand.

About honey, I thought honey was not til 2 years old? I just got DH convinced that Milo can't have it til he's 2...

Yep the spores in honey can be dangerous for children, two is generally the recommendation if not later.

Everything I have read says 12 months

    This is from the CYH site;
    Honey
Honey can contain the spores (like seeds) of a germ (C. botulinum) which can cause a serious, but rare, health problem (botulism) for babies under 12 months.

Children over 12 months and adults do not have the same problems if they eat honey with these spores in it.
    • It is not known why it only affects babies under 12 months old.
    • Babies with botulism from eating honey can die very quickly if they are not treated, and if treatment is needed it will be many months before they are well again.
    • Because this is a cause of an illness that, even though rare, is preventable, it is recommended that honey is not given to infants under 12 months old

Thanks guys, yeah I have read conflicting info, which is why I was unsure.
I might ask my MCHN and see what she reckons too.

Well there ya go! I was always told 2 years by my Dr, but then again that may be because of his eczema as we had to delay a lot of foods.

Yeah, the honey thing has me confused as well. I'm not going to give it to Kynan until he's 2 JIC, it's not like we use it often anyway so for us it's no big deal. There was this thread on it a while ago.

Don't have any suggestions for sandwich fillings sorry LOL. Kynan hates sandwiches... he pulls them apart and throws them on the floor.
