Who cooks at your house?

This stems from an argument I just had with DP about it being his turn to cook tonight.

Generally we take turns to cool. Alternating nights.

The difference is when I cook I wash up as well.

I cooked lastnight right. So today DP puts dinner in the slow cooker. Now it's 5.40pm and he's sitting on the lounge surfing Facebook. When I ask him to put the potatoes on he fully cracks the $hits with me about it and calls me 'the Queen'.

So... Who cooks at your place?

Actually, I lied, DH rang me today and said he'd ordered pizza for tonight. Is that classed as cooking?

Generally me. DH will cook some weekends before I get home from work or for kids and him if I am on a PM. But he makes a massive mess and dirtys everything and uses everything he can think of!! Does my head in!

He also gets shirty if I ask him to do anything else. *sigh*

We generally take turns. If its something a bit more fancier than spag bol then DP will cook as hes the masterchef in this house.

I do feel you on the washing up, i do dishes here he refuses but then whenever he used to do them i would have missing glasses and plates so probably a good thing i do them! But it is frustrating when im sick and i cant do them and they stack up...

Me unless I'm working late, or feeling unwell. Years of DH being my kitchen hand has proved he's now a very good cook

If he cooks I clean up, if I cook he cleans up. And the kids empty the dishwasher as needed. We all do our bit mostly.

Me all the time.

But I grew up with both mum and dad cooking tea so it was a shock for me to realise that men don't always cook!
DH cooked for me once when we were first going out. He was living at home still so I think his mum did it. Other times he cooked I've had to throw the food and the pot out! So he's been barred

Rouge, I'm adopting myself into your family.

There's 4 adults in this house, but I'm the one who cooks all the time. The dishes are generally done by me - I'll wash them while dinner's cooking. If there's been a lot of dishes Mum or Dad might do a load as well, or sometimes they get to them before I do dinner. Professor point blank refuses to do dishes, he hates them. Mum hates cooking, but will do it if I'm not going to be home. Professor's idea of cooking is buying. Sometimes it drives me a bit nuts actually, days like today where I'm knackered and have had a huge headache all day and was too busy with the nephews to take anything out for dinner. I've declared it a 'fend for yourself' dinner tonight

ETA - Snap, Snacks! Professor can cook some great meals, but the effort expended to actually get him to cook is probably more than just cooking myself

Both. DH is an awesome cook and loves nothing more than a big cook up - the more people here for dinner, the happier he is. Lately he's been doing all of the cooking. When I'm not pg, I pretty much do all the weekly cooking and he'll cook on the weekends.

Cleaning up, well it's generally both of us. I wash, he dries. But again lately, he's been doing that too. He's a bit in love with using our dishwasher lol.

I do all the cooking during the week as DH is home too late (he often does the dishes though). Weekends we will often be in the kitchen together, one preparing while the other cooks or one cleaning up. DH likes to cook us a hot brekky on sunday (no complaints from me!).

I do 99% of the cooking but I don't mind as I love it, I generally clean up so DH can spend time with the girls, but he's generally mre than happy to help me

I cook every night lately as dh is pulling long hours. But when he's home earlier of an evening he will cook more. He's always been very good in the kitchen and I admit he's a better cook than me!!!

Me through the week and DH on the weekends. Generally we negotiate Friday night (well in Advance) Saturday nights we generally cook as a family something really yummy..... Whoever cooks the other one washes!

Me unless I'm too tired or haven't gotten to it yet when he gets home. DH too trashes the kitchen & him tidying doesn't include washing anything that doesnt fit in the dishwasher, wiping down the stove, benches etc.
