I never stopped buying them. I just made sure that they would get eaten and only gave them to DD1 when I knew she actually wanted one. DD2 loves them so much, she never let any go to waste.

I still buy a couple every now and then for myself and the kids, but price isn't a factor in that. I'm really fussy with my bananas and they have to be just right for me to eat them. I won't buy them after they've gone pas the stage of right for me

I never stopped buying them either, just cut down on the amount we would buy. Miss E - I don't think you need to say "don't shoot me" - what you do with your money is your own business.

Likewise to the people who are saying "Who is paying $18 a kilo for bananas???"

If you have fussy eaters who you know will eat bananas, you will buy them. I looked at some of the junk that was in my trolley and took that out and put bananas in, felt better that way.

Bought a hand at Woolies last night and they were down to $7.99 a kilo, yay.

Do you know what shocked me the other day? GRAPES. I chose a massive bunch of grapes (mum's group was coming round) without looking at the price and it came through the register at $27 I almost died. Turned out it was like a kilo and a half at $17 a kilo. Needless to say they went back.

I never stopped either just didn't get so many and made sure they were all, ds got them if the girls didn't want to finish them. Some days it would be all I could get the girls to eat. So glad they are $7 now.

We've been eating them whenever we can find any of good quality. That's definitely been an issue since Yasi, so it hasn't been a staple fruit, but mostly in our house.

Now, we're back to having them regularly. I figure my support for the industry is a lot better than a donation to a charity to help the farmers once they go broke.

I have - never stopped. If we stop buying them altogether because of the price (I understand fully that many have tight budgets and may have had to reduce or completely stop buying them except for the occasional treat), it just opens the door for them to be imported and that would be not only ridiculous but also crippling for our local farmers to have to compete with imported bananas

We kept buying them, DS and I both love them so we've just bought them as normal, I agree with another poster with the fact the most junk food is more expensive anyway so its still a better choice imo, and luckily we can afford them

I've still been buying them, just not as many and making sure that they are eaten. Before the cyclone they would sometimes sit out on the bench for too long and end up in the freezer for cooking, so I haven't let that happen. DH is excited, we made a banana smoothie on the weekend which was scrummy - he's been hit with a banana surcharge at a few cafes when he's ordered one out and about (which is understandable with the prices they were)

I bought them once a week instead of twice a week when they were real expensive.. But as the kids love them, then I thought is was only fair they still had them.

we get DS 2 or 3 a week, because he loves them and they're good for his bot bot.

I used to have one for breakfast most days, but not anymore!!!

maybe when they get back down to $2 a kilo

When the cyclone hit, I bought bucket loads of them at $1.50 per kilo and froze them, so we had them in smoothies for months.

I too have still been buying them, but only 1 or 2 a week. Cant wait till they are more affordable!

I would buy one or two a week for DD. I figured at $2-3 a banana at the height of the prices i would still rather pay that and let her eat one than buy her something less healthy....That said I basically brought them when she wanted them....we didnt have them sitting in the fruit bowl like we do now.

We never stopped buying them. Our kids love them so we kept buying them. Some days we'd spend around $20 on bananas for our 5 kids. I'm glad to see the prices come down.

Sent from my iPhone, so I apologise if it makes no sense.

We never stopped buying bananas, Moo has at least one per day & DH always has one in his lunchbox too. Must admit I did cringe a few times when Moo threw half his narnie on the ground at the park
