Dd doesn't like learning at school

Reading is developmental and while you can do all the thing people have mentioned until shes ready it probably won't make much difference. I would be gently encouraging and offering opportunities but til she starts making the connections herself it may not help. At her age I slant be too concerned, in Finland they don't teach reading til they are 7-8 because many many kids just cannot do it earlier than that as they aren't developmentally ready, we need to take a few notes from their book ( pardon the pun!!!)

Finland's teachers are very highly respected I hear. Getting into uni to study teaching is harder than getting into medicine, or so I've heard....
