Ideas for a very special mummy/daughter day?

I've been meaning to plan a special outing for just DD and I before this baby arrives but I haven't been able to come up with anything that is just perfect yet.

I want it to be something that she really enjoys and remembers for a long time but I have no idea what. We already go to the movies and shopping type trips sometimes so that's not really as memorable as I was hoping.

The best I've come up with so far is maybe a portrait type session where she could get her hair done and dressed up - she would love that lol but maybe it's a bit old for her?

Anyone have any inspiration? I'm running out of time to organise something!!

(can't see how old she is on my phone)

    High tea?

Sent from my iPhone, more than likely while I should be doing something else!

Oops I meant to put that in lol - she is 6.

I think maybe high tea is a bit old for her too - she would get bored. I love the idea though - maybe I should do that with my mum instead lol

High tea would be my idea as well. My best friend took her 6 year old her mum and grandma and they all had a blast!

We did a family photo shoot with my DD & she loved it - getting her hair & 'make-up' done and changing into different outfits. You could always get a pedicure and nails done somewhere, they'd love to do your DD

a night in a fancy hotel?
    gold class movie?
theatre show? (musical and the like)
    visit to the ballet?
some kind of mum/kid class?? Cooking/craft/pottery?? (they have some down here for kids - maybe something similar up your way??)

SOmething at the theatre? We have Annie on at the moment down here - not sure what you have up there? Or another concert type event?? A pampering session? You could get mani's/pedi's and then go out for lunch/afternoon tea?

Maybe take her to one of those beading places and make a special necklace or whatever with good quality beads. While you're making the necklace, tell a story so each part of the necklace represents a part of the story. I did this once with my DD1 and made up a story about a queen who loved her daughter the princess so much she travelled out in the royal carriage to find some treasure. Each jewel she found said something about the princess, like the blue one was about how she speaks the truth, the red one about how loved she is, etc... Just make sure you commit the story to memory cos you will asked to tell it many times over .

Personally I would steer clear of dress up/portraity type things - too much emphasis on appearance. Choose something that shows you love your daughter for her spirit, her keen mind, her kindness, the unique person that she is.

My DD is much younger but she talks and talks and talks about anytime we go to some kind of 'show', you know a play for kids or something like that. Being school holidays perhaps something is running?
Little Big Shots is touring at the moment, it is a film festival for kids, perhaps see if there is a session that would suit?

I did this a few weekends ago with DD (she's 6.5)

She got her hair washed, cut, blow dried and then curled. Afterwards we went for a pedicure and she got her toes and fingers painted.

Also bought her an outfit (which she chose on her own)

Thanks so much for the ideas.

I love the necklace idea MD!! I will have to check out what's around like that - I think there might be a bead shop in the CBD.

I'll have a look at what's on at the theatre too and have a chat with her to suss out which she would like the most.

I really love the idea of it being something she remembers for a long time.

    Oh MD that is gorgeous!

Yes, I would do something like that, or something creative where you can do something together and talk aswell, like an art class or something?

I would stay away from any beauty things too.

Ok - I've figured it all out lol now just to have a chat to convince DF about it and we are set lol

Turns out the Queensland Symphony Orchestra has one showing of their midsummer nights dream performance that got awesome reviews last year. The one showing is this Saturday night at QPAC in the city so we can go to that and staying in a hotel afterwards . I can't think of anything better than a midsummer nights dream for DD to watch - fairies and magic and love stories lol right up her ally!!

DF would join us for the show and the hotel but is working during the day so DD and I can spend the day in the city beforehand. So maybe a trip to beads and beads is in order if I can increase the budget a little lol - which I probably can since I just found a 2 for 1 deal for the tickets to the show!! Then we can make her a bracelet or necklace that she can wear to the show

Am I going overboard? I already know that is what DF will think lol

Is this a sure way to end up going into labour between now and Saturday?
