Kids can be so cruel

that is shocking - how does a parent explain that to their child? What makes a child even say that to another?

That is absolutely terrible. I can't believe the things that come out of some kids' mouths. I used to teach high school kids and most of the time, the kids who spoke like that in the playground came from families where the parents were rough as well or were hardly ever home, so it was the kid's attempt to try and get 'noticed'. I wonder what the real issue is with this 'friend'. You will have to let us know what the mother says when you call her. I hope there is a good apology coming your daughter's way, the poor little poppet.
