YAAAAAY!!! That's great Sarah, now you have no excuse to not get started, and once you have (hopefully) won the embellishments from ebay you will be on your way to creating a beautiful album.... =D>
Hi to everyone else, hope everyone is well and scrappin' scrappin' scrappin'......Enjoy

Yay - with Shane being at home at the mo, I have been able to book into a class at the local shop on wednesday. I showed them the pages I have done - and I got a couple of slaps on the wrist for using tape on the photos (big deal.....) but they were happy with them. So its a beginners class all to myself ($20 for 2 hours) and I get to chose what I want to do! They are going to show me some tools I think cause I'm pretty good with colours nd basic stuff. I'm just finishing pages 3 and 4 in my album for Jenna, mind you, I just got another 140 photos printed, so we have plenty to work with!!

WAHHH!!!! I'm a bit upset... due to unforseen circumstances, our income is about to go down quite a bit. This means absolutely no money for any extras... which means once I run out of my current supplies I will have to stop! It also sucks cause I wont have the creative freedom to go and buy what I need, and will just have to make do with what I have.
I think for Christmas I will be asking my family to donate towards a 'scrapping fund' for me, rofl!! ;)
Sarah - your new album sounds gorgeous! :)
-
Bumma Ambah! We are the same, no money for scrapping, hence the switch to digi-scrapping for the moment! As for Christmas, I'm doing the same thing, but asking for gift vouchers to any of our 3 scrap shops.
-
Im always getting vouchers as people dont know what to buy for me, I have a $50 one waiting to be used ( decided to keep it til bubs born)
-
VOUCHERS...that's a great idea, I never thought of that. I might just have to mention that to friends and family as my birthday is fast approaching. And we all know how expensive the scrapbooking hobby can be...
Actually, a friend of mine who is a beginner scrapbooker, recently had a baby and so I filled a box with the usually baby girl gifts and added some rolls of different shades and patterns of pink paper, embellishments and stickers...she absolutely :hbeat:'d it and thought that I should market the idea as just about every second person is scrapbooking now and it was a great gift idea....that's a thought I guess, perhaps something that I should look into...
Hope everyone is well and enjoying the weekend that is just about over UNFORTUNATELY.
Take care and Happy Scrappin'...

My family went through a time when they would buy me scrappin vouchers too. Hmm must shake them back into it. Although I don't get hardly any time to scrap atm. i think I have only finished one page since Tehya was born, started many, just not finished :)
I miss going to my Thursday night classes, it was my little bit of me time and I usually came home with atleast one page finished. I just can't see taking Tehya out to a class that doesn't get us home til after 9.30pm, if she got sick again I wouldn't forgive myself. I think I'd feel selfish if I did that. Roll on warmer weather (or Tehya taking a bottle occassionally)
Take care

Vouchers are a great idea! Roll on Christmas time!

Hello again, everyone.
Scrapping vouchers are the best presents!
Here are some sites I have used for researching layouts....
Creative Memories
Collected Memories

Good luck, and I'll start putting up some more of my layouts when I have lots of energy back. *nasty flu thing got me the day after my chicken pox injection...so the immunisation isn't as nasty as I thought!*

As a baby present my girlfriend does a small album with all the borders and papers and stickers and stuff, just leaving a gap for a normal size photo to go in, so the new mum just has to spend 1/2hr sticking photos in, then has a completed baby album. I htink its a great idea, but havent actually done it myself!!

Okay girls some advice please
You've got me interested in scrap booking now but I have some questions so please help me if you can!!
1. Where do I start? Magazines? Maybe buy a kit off ebay? What are your suggestions for a compete novice who has no artistic talent at all......I mean I can make a stick figure drawing look bad!! So please point me in a general direction so as I don't waste money!
2. I have no children....or any on the way at the moment......but there are two bubs due in the family in the next couple of months plus my DP and I have just bought our 1st home...what i'm getting at is what sort of things would I do? Do partner ones look good, homes? Can you do gifts etc...Please forgive me for dumb questions but I have no idea what its all about but would really love a hobby that I can do for me!
Any advice will be much appreciated girls so fill me in as much as you can....I look forward to your answers!!
Cheers Jess :D

Oooh Vanita, that's a great idea :)
Jess, if you check out e-bay there are some people who sell page kits which have everything you need, you just have to add the photo & put all the bits & pieces where you want them. It's a good way to start out I think. I find the scrapbooking magazines to be a bit expensive & only bought one cos I have the gift voucher for it.
You can scrap anything - holidays, parties, New Years Eve, weddings, picnics, pets, anything you take photos of really. I'm doing a scrapbook of Zander for his grandmother (MIL) for her birthday and my mum has hinted that she'd like one as well. You can also use the techniques to make cards or invitations and that sort of thing. That might be a good way to start as well.
My other recommendation would be to search the net, even just to see other pages people have done so you can steal their ideas :-$
-
Jess, as Sarah said you can scrap about anything in the world. Whjy not think about doing an album about "YOU" generally the scrapper themselves is forgotton about. Usually we are the ones behind the camera and there aren't really lot of pics with us in it. You can even scrap without a picture. Just lots of words about things.
Maybe an age page like 20 things about me at 20.
an initial page J for instance.
My Reflections is a great scrap mag, it has step by step instructions and it retails for around $8.95, usually you can get them with a bonus back issue with it. If you buy one mag this is the best for beginners. There are a few out there though. As Sarah also said browse on the internet for ideas.
Sarah, we don't call it stealing, we call it "Scraplifting" ;)
Take care
Trish
-
I like that Trish! I'm a scraplifter
-
Thanks for the hints girls....defintely something to think about!! Will have a look for magazine tomorrow Trish and Sarah will defintely take your ideas on board
I'm very excited now...I might actually be able to do something!!!
I'll let you know how I get on though!
Cheers Jess
-
Jess, Scrapbooking Memories this month is quite good and it has a back copy of My Reflections in it. As well as a couple of sheets of paper. It is around $9.95. I am a beginner also and think these mags are good for beginners this month.
I also borrow these from my library, or if you find you like the mags, people sell them cheap on ebay.
Big W and Kmart also sell page kits for many different things, like school days and travel. Kmart have 50% most scrapbooking items from today.
I'm a scraplifter too!

Hi jess,
I just started scrapbooking a few weeks ago- and was a little aprehensive. I have started by buying some paper, and a cheaper album, and just experimenting, and not putting too much pressure on myself to create 'the perfect album'- after all it's only the first time round :)
Have fun playing around- it' very relaxing, and I should be PERFECT at it by the time we have children :)

Jess,
I just did a class at my local shop. It was $20 for 2 hours, and we finished 2 pages. They supplied all the paper, cutters and photostickers for that price, and I just brought the photos, and paid for extra embellishments.
I'm SOOOOOO happy with my pages!! They are the birth ones, so are very dramatic, but really special. And its given me lots of ideas with other pages too.
Fi
-
Fi - great stuff on your class. I am having one on Sunday myself so looking forward to that very much. I am also going to do workshops once a month, I think that is enough time inbetween cause I am bound to spend the $$ so once a month is a good space.
I have found a site on the net, Aus Scrap Central and that has free classes, good for beginners that can't get to classes. Also has stuff they sell. Let me know folks if you want the actual link.

Just a quick question for all those seasoned scrapbookers ;)
I'm slowly slowly starting to collect things to get Zander's first album done, but am finding heaps of different things that I love. For example, I have some Suzy's Zoo stickers which are cute, but I also have different branded stickers as well.
Soooo the question is - do you keep the same sort of theme all the way through the book? Oooor do you just stick with one idea per page & allow them all to be totally different colours / sticker themes etc?
-
Sarah, IT's all your choice! That's the wonderful thing about scrapbooking...there are no rules. It's whatever you want to do. :-)
You could decide to do one theme for the whole album, and this does tend to make the album get finished a lot quicker. Or you can do every page different, and just enjoy doing each page.
You will have lots of album's in your future, so if you want to theme, but want to play with all these beautiful things as well, just think that you can use them on the next album.
Julz
-
Sarah, I just do one theme per page generally, I find that doing double layouts get's your album finished quicker. Also a little advise but it's totally up to you. I did the same thing and went mad on getting stickers. I still have heaps. I just don't use them very much. And as hard as it is, don't scrap your best pics first, as time goes on and you get better at it you will be able to do a much better job with them.
With scrapping it's all a personal thing, what you may not love other people will thing is great and vice versa. There are no real rules (other than making sure all your products are acid free and not using sticky tape). Have fun with your album.
Fi, sounds like you had a good time at your scrap lesson. The shop I go to runs the beginners class over 4 weeks, 2 hours each lesson for $12.
Nell, it's so easy to go to a class and walk away having spent $50. I find that if I'm going to a scrap night now that I take as much of my own supplies as I can carry. Usually then I'm lucky to have spent $5 :)
I brought alittle scrapbook kit yesterday, it's a little album with all the embelishments included for $13.95. I got a boy's one to make up for my brother, you can girl and wedding ones too. Very cute and hopefully quick. I need to get it done by tomorrow 8-[
Happy scrappin
Take care

For the kids albums I usually do double page spreads and stick to 1 theme for that , but the whole album is all very different in total.
The only time I stick to a theme for an entire album, is when its a pressie ( ie An aunt loves purple, so did only shades of purple for her album)
You've got to think too, it will be for more than a year, IYKWIM, and say Easter stickers, you dont want to have to use the suzy zoo ones more than once. You will see ideas you absolutely love, and it wont match the others, so yeah I reckon take each page as it comes!!!
-
Hello,
I was just reading emails, and a whole group of friends are talking about altered books. I goggled and read up, and thought this would be a great fun thing to do with kids, to introduce them to scrapbooking, without things needing to be perfect.
It seems to be taking a book (anything from an 8 page chidlren's board book* to full on hardcovers) and sticking, painting, drawing, writing anything on them. Some are themed, and I think others are just art forms.
Only 3 weeks until I go on a scrapbooking retreat!! I can't wait!
Julz
-
Julz, yay on the retreat. I went on one last year for the weekend and had a great time. My scrap shop is having another one in November and I really want to go, and the girls want me to go. The only thing is I'll have to take Tehya, I don't think this is fair to all the other girls that are going as nobody else will have kids there, you know, it's a break from the kids too. Anyway the girls that run the shop have even offered to take their daughters aged 13 to look after bub.
A great offer but I still don't think I'll take them up on it. Kids soon get bored with looking after a baby and Tehya will be 8 months old by then, so not so little and cutesy anymore also getting into things.
Altered books are great, hope that you guys have fun making them up. I spent the better part of yesterday and last night making an album up for my brother to give to him today. He'd better like it :)
Have a great time on your retreat too.
Take care

Hi all,
I am so excited, I have spent the last week bidding on ebay and I have won some really great scrapbooking stuff...A lot of it is hand made stuff that I just don't get the time to make. I can't wait until it arrives as I have so many ideas to use the stuff in. Because I have been bidding on ebay and not much else in the little spare time that I have, I haven't done much scrapbooking and so I am suffering from withdrawals and I guess I better put some of my ideas down on paper before I forget them as I have so many wizzing around my head.
Happy Scrappin' Girls

Well Girls,
I've booked in for a beginners scrapbooking class next Wednesday. I'm really excited about it! I've been looking on ebay and there is so much stuff on there.....I can't wait until I know what I'm doing so I can go shopping!!
I'll let you know how I go at class!!
Thanks for you advice
Jess

Trish, shame about the retreat. I know our group allow babies under 1 to go (mostly cos we are all still breast feeding when they are that age) but I have noticed those mother's don't get much done. Thou I enjoyed the cuddles from the tiny visitors last year. *grins*It was lovely of the shop to make that offer. :-) Make sure you take some time to yourself that weekend, to scrap at home or a friends house!
TY, I love retreats! Just so focused and so many wonderful ideas to see.
I'd love to hear what your brother thought of his album.
Karen, that sounds like fun! Get stuck into it and play with alll your new toys. :-)
Jess, whoohoo!! Oh, I hope you have lots of fun and enjoy learning about this great new hobby. I'd love to see the pages you create.
I have my workshop this Friday, and we are doing "Christmas in July" and I am wrapt. I have so many great pics of Nina and her cousin sharing their first christmas together, and have so many great new ideas to ty out. :-)

Woohooo I just won a mini boys album on ebay, now I'll have a scrapbook as a little brag book I can show off!
But the real reason I came on was another question, yup I'm full of 'em! For those that have printed on vellum, what sort of printer did you use? We have an inkjet & I'm just worried that it would smudge.
-
Yay on your win Sarah. With the printing onto vellum, set your paper settings on your printer properties to Transperancy. This takes alittle longer to print and some printers - like mine will hold it in them for a little longer to allow for drying. It does smudge very easily so you need to put it aside for a while to dry out.
Also, if you are interested in using embossing power you can sprinkle some very fine embossing powder over the print while it is still wet and used an embossing dryer (or do like I do and use the toaster) to melt the powder and set it. This loooks great. Just don't hold the vellum or paper too close to the toaster.
HTH
Take care
Trish
-
Wow Trish, that sounds like fun!
I did the inkjet printer test on my vellums and it was a no go, even after it dried, (still smudged) but I think the embossing would bond with it. I am going to try that!
Otherwise, apparently, laser printers will bond the ink properly to vellums...I don't have one but a friend did print like that and it didn't smudge...so if you know anyone with a laser printer, bake some biscuits and invite yourself over with puter disk and vellum!
Congrats Sarah, I'm sure you'll enjoy having a beautifully decorated brag book to show off your greatest works of art. ;-)
Julie
-
Well done on your win Sarah. I may steal your idea if that is okay. :) I'd love to do a similar thing for work, so I have handy to show people when they want to see piccies of Matthew.
I have a question too - what albums do you all use? 12x12's? Or smaller? What type if so? Some don't have the toploading pages do they? You just stick them on the page? If so, how do you protect them?
-
Janelle...oh, I love the albums. I've been using all sorts of ones over the years, but now I use Creative Memories ones that are not top loading (I love them like that...no fear of pages falling out, and no dust settling on my work.) and the way you protect them is by a polypropylene (plastic) page protector that slides over the whole page. Safe for photo's and they snuggly fit over the page.
For sizes, I use the 12x12 a lot, but personally I love the 7 x 7 inch albums....1 or 2 pics to a page and the smaller decorations just work for me. Plus I can finish an album in a month. I have so many "ongoing" 12x12 projects..my cousins wedding, Nina's school, Nina's birth, Book of me, DH's heritage.
7x7's are also great for gifts.
Julz
-
I use mainly 12x12 toploaders, coz then I can rearrange, and insert pages easier, ( especially in the kids albums) I too love the 7x7 for gifts, and the creative memories ones are very sturdy, but lack the versatility of the toploaders.
-
I now have 2 blue toploaders 12x12 for Zander. I am slowly collecting supplies before I start though.
Steal away Nell, when I saw it on eBay I thought it was a fantastic idea. It's a great kit with all the embellishments, paper & everything. I'll send you a link to it so you can see what it is...
-
Thanks so much ladies, I can't believe the choices of albums out there.
Sarah - received your link. OMG, great idea or what?! Thanks so much! :)
-
Good Afternoon all you scrapaholics (I think that's how you spell it) out there, I hope everyone is well and have been getting heaps of scrapbooking done over the cold and wet weekend.
I am tidying up my craft and scrapbooking room ATM, well not right now as I thought I would do a quick post to see how you are all getting on. Here's hoping I get it done so that after munchee man has gone to bed I can scrapbook to my hearts content tonight in a nice tidy room......
As you all know I have been bidding on ebay lately and have recently won some great scrapbooking stuff, I have items arriving daily ATM which is great.
Well better go and get back to it.
Take Care, Happy Scrappin'.....

I am so excited. My littlest sister, Erin, bought me some much needed accessories to help me out with my scrapping. She was mortified when I told her that as soon as my collecting started, it had to stop because of lack of $$. I thought it was so lovely for her to buy these things for me. She showed me how to use the hole punch etc. to use the eyelets and has done some awesome pages in her own scrap book. We are hopefully all going to get together so that each of my sisters and my Mum can do a scrap page for Gabby's album.
-
YAY Deb thats great. Sounds like a plan to get together with your mum and sisters, it will be really nice for Gabby to have some special pages in her album done by other family members.
I sat down this afternoon and scrapped a page for Tehya. Only a quick and easy one as she wouldn't sleep and her screaming woke Noah up.
Still the page got finished, that's all that matters.
Take care

Hi, can I join in?! :D
Well, after reading this thread, it has finally inspired me to START scrapping! DH bought me a scrapbook kit for beginners for Christmas, and a few packs of 'themes' with stickers, embellishments etc..and all year, I've been 'trying' to pluck up the courage to start, ALL YEAR..LOL...but found myself a bit SCARED and confused by it all! The magazine layouts are fantastic, but are also a bit scary for a little old beginner like me..I was thinking "There is NO way I could do that'!
So, I've changed my way of thinking, and now think 'I have to crawl before I walk' so to speak. So, using the packs of stickers etc and the papers that were included..I have now done TWO pages already..yay! They are VERY basic, and I haven't finished yet..still have to journal the pages, and I'm not exactly quite sure how or what to do there yet....but I feel so motivated now and just want to keep going..I was up till midnight last night doing some 'research' on the net!!
With the journalling, I'm a bit lost as to what to do it ON...do you just use cardstock, bits of paper etc..?? Don't laugh, please!! :)
