Roast turkey!!! Choc ripple cake
Lollies and choc all day LOL shortbread just eating what we want!
DH and I will be having chrissy alone this year, as in it will just be me, him and the kids. Usually we have chrissy at my mum's with my close family on chrissy eve, and then extended family on chrissy day. We have cold BBQ chickens, ham, salads (like potato salad, garden salad), prawns, fried rice on chrissy day. A big fruit platter, big bowls of cherries and my nan makes a christmas pudding with cream and custard for dessert.
On Chrissy Eve it's usually something simple, maybe snags and veggies on the bbq.
When we can we get up to DH's family for chrissy, where they have a pretty traditional chrissy lunch of roast turkey with all the trimmings.
So this year I don't really know what to do I thought DH would like roast turkey (I'm not a huge fan of it, but will have it for him), maybe a trifle too...I would love to do some other things too though, but have no idea what!! I also don't wnat too much food either. It is only he and I who will really eat, the kids don't eat much!!
So what foods are special to you at chrissy? What foods just say christmas to you?

EGGNOG! And I have to say I do make the best eggnog around.
It's uncooked, and not safe for PG women... but you can cook it but I never do because it's a right PITA.
You may find once it sits that you end up with a pillow of gorgeous froth on top but a few stirs and it reincorporates and is velvety smooth.Eggnog - Makes 6-7 cups
4 egg yolks
⅓ cup sugar, plus 1 tablespoon
500ml milk
1 cup heavy cream
White Rum (as much or as little as you like - we normally do a cup for this recipe as it's meant to serve 6-7 small cups... but you can do less or none at all)
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
4 egg whites*
Using a mixer, beat the egg yolks until they are pale. Gradually add the 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved and yolks are thick. Add the milk, cream, rum and nutmeg and stir to combine.
Beat egg whites to soft peaks. With the mixer still running gradually add the 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
Whisk the egg whites into the mixture. Chill and serve.
I can't believe I'm giving away all my secrets tonight![]()
Thanks everyone! I'm going to have to start making some of our own traditions methinks!
Mmmm, some nuts in there shells, chocolate truffles, punch (non alcoholic this year though!), rum balls, gingerbread.....yummmeee!!!
Cailin, could I have your Croissant creme brulee recipe too please! It sounds devine!
BTW, Belle, youcould have the ham if you eat it hot, and you could make some rum balls with rum essensce, not exactly the same as with real rum, but still at least you can still indulge then!
