kids love baking right, well my 4yo does (rarely happens, so a huge novelty for her)
so i thought, right, one day of 5 day break, we will make hot x buns
found a recipe in a New Idea, ripped that out, made sure i had the ingredients.
the only thing they asked for, that i had to go and specially buy, was dry yeast.
so, we started making them 11am Saturday morning.
got the (one) batch finished at
6.30pm!!!!
Yes, 7 and a half hours it took us.
tried four times to get the yeast to activate
ended up using the fourth attempt (even though it didn't activate)
so got low, dense buns, instead of light fluffy ones (cos of faulty yeast)
if it wasn't for the kind people on my FB page, no buns would have happened at all.
beginner cook + recipe that assumes baking knowledge = ARGH!
so 4yo and i were grumpy, irritable all day, for a thing, we thought would be easy and fun.
it was presented as an easy thing to do - hmph. i think cooking with yeast, is in a catergory all of it's own. People that make bread already, i think would find it much easier.
