Hugs darling, it is a crappy situation to be in. Your kids are so very lucky they have an awesome mummy like you

Huge hugs , that completely sucks . You are so awesome holding it all together for your DD while she opens her present.

FWIW - my parents divorced when I was 3 1/2 (for very similar reasons to you) and my dad never sent us birthday presents or cards either (I have two older siblings). My Mum never made an issue about it (i.e "Your Father's a terrible man who forgets your birthdays"), she just gave us comforting words if we ever brought it up. We were all OK, we never cried about it. We kind of expected it anyway, he wasn't there for us any other time, so we didn't expect anything on our birthdays. My Mum made a big deal for each of us on our birthdays so we never missed out. I get teary thinking about how hard she worked to scrape together enough of her little funds (our Dad never paid child support either) to save up for a really awesome present for each of us. I still thank her to this day .

Your kids will really appreciate and respect you for all you do for them as they get older, I promise. You are awesome .

They will see, I can promise you that . I have so much love and respect for my Mum, I can't even describe it .

Your poor DS . It is so hard to see your child hurt by someone they love.
