My personal opinion? I'm not sure I'd turn it off at the powerpoint...I can't reach it even when not pregnant without moving the bed! I used my electric blanket to warm the bed up a lot while pregnant and then turned it off when I got in.
I think electric blankets pose the same 'danger' as hot baths in pregnancy - that is, they're dangerous if you're not being sensible; if you get too warm, turn the blanket off, if the bath is too hot, get out.
So yeah, my personal opinion would be to use an electric blanket if I needed a warm bed, but to do it sensibly, making sure I was hydrated and not going to overheat.
I agree that you shouldnb't get too hot but I am a bit guilty of falling asleep and waking up hot - but not boiling. Anyway warm the bed then turn it off I say.
Definately would NOT use an electric blanket EVER - pregnant or not!
I learned about the electromagnetic radiation they give off even when turned 'off' (as long as it's plugged in it's still emiting) in a subject at uni last year all about hidden health hazards in the home - ditch the lekkie blanket and get a nice cosy hot water bottle - much safer for you and your baby
I loved my elecky blanket when I had the QS bed. I have one on the King bed but it was a foreign (sp?) one so I just use it as a matress protector . I have a high quality goose down doona and once in bed it doesn't take long to warm up.
KR - what about if you got yourself a little heater and turn it on 15-30 min before you go off to bed. It will warm the room which makes the cold bed not too bad to get into, you just turn it off before you climb into bed. Then you don't have to worry about over heating.
Lee22 made a good point about the flanny pj's but if you don't like that you could also invest in some flanny sheets they are always good.
