Unhappy Can fever destroy or attack an embryo?

This month I was sure I had a conception around 5-6DPO. It was just like my last conception, cramps, bowels went haywire, after a couple of days slightly pronounced breast veins. My temps were fantastic, a significant dip at 5-6DPO and then up up up from there. Then at 10DPO I developed a fever, chills, sweats, shivering, which lasted just over 24 hours. No other symptoms just a fever and a few aches and headache associated. Once the fever dissapeared all my conception symptoms had also gone and a HPT was BFN.

Was I dreaming it, wishing it to be true? Was the fever my body ridding itself of an embryo for whatever reason or did my fever also kill any chance of an embryo successfully implanting.

Yesterday at 11DPO once the fever went away all my tugs below and conception feelings disappeared too. Breasts are squiggy again, veins normal. I just know I am not pg now.

The not knowing is so frustrating but being annoyed at my body doesn't help as it was doing whatever it was doing for a reason.

Just had to get this out. I know my chances of a natural conception leading to a successful pg and birth are low with poor egg quality, severe endo and age but I was feeling so hopeful this month.

    Thanks for listening.

Awww Dusty . I'm definitely not an expert so I can't give you any professional advice, but I wouldn't think a fever could harm your embryo (this, again, is my opinion only, I could be wrong). Usually an embryo is very protected in there and it is only mum that suffers through the fever. Your immune system is suppressed when you fall pg, so it is very possible that you are spot on and have a little one growing in there and that is why you were sick (this happened to me).

A BFN at 10DPO is not something I would be looking at right now, I have only gotten BFPs when AF was due, never earlier.

Please don't let yourself get down about this, you are still in with a chance, every pregnancy is different and will give different symptoms. I know it is easier said then done though .

Sorry I'm not very good with words, but I just wanted to offer some reassurance and hugs .

Dusty, it's so hard when you get your hopes up...perhaps there is still a chance.
But back to your question, I am really not too sure, but I don't think a fever would harm your embryo at that early stage, but I am not an expert.
Thinking of you, and hoping you will get a surprise natural conception against the odds.

Dusty hon, I'm really sorry, but I think a fever can interfere with the implantation of an embryo. On my last FET I developed a cold/flu the day after transfer, and my clinic advised me to keep up the panadol, and take it easy to try and avoid getting a fever. It's similar to not being allowed in a spa, which raises your body temperature.

I'm so sorry hon, I have everything crossed for you that in your case, your fever did nothing to affect your chances. I've read so many stories about people losing all symptoms and still getting a BFP so don't lose all hope.

    . . . I wish I could offer more!!

Dusty. I am thinking of you hun.

I don't know the answer to your question. It is always possible that you are pg without "feeling it", and it is also possible that you felt pg when you weren't - I have had that happen, feeling just like I was pg but not being pg. I don't know why this happens. Sadly, you will probably never know for sure what happened. I hope it's a sign of a BFP very soon for you hun.

    Dusty (((hugs)))
I am pretty sure a fever should be avoided during early pregnancy. I can recall that hot baths should be avoided to prevent an artifical fever and therefore a risk of deformities. I asume if it is very early it would not help implantation at all.

Take it easy on yourself, the perfect baby is almost ready to be with you.

Dusty. When I had my ET I asked my FS if there was anything that I should avoid doing in the TWW, and he said the only thing was to avoid doing anything that would excessively raise my body temp. So I would think that yes a fever could potentially affect implantation. I know I have had a bad fever in a couple of my TWW's and not been pg, but on the other hand that could be a coincidence too. But I would also think though, that whether the embie was affected would depend on the severity of the fever??

Hang in there, miracles do happen you know. Will be for one for you and DH.

i was told the same thing from my FS - so i would think that yeah maybe a fever could effect it also - but i dont know for sure either!

Am thinking of you and hope it was too early for BFP and that your BFP is just a few days away!!!! xo

    Hi Dusty,
I had a cold and a fever in my TWW and also a few weeks after that. My pg is still going fine.
I really hope that everything is ok for you. xx

I too have been told not to get too hot during the TWW and to avoid overexertion after an embryo transfer.
Its just that the 'pg' feeling completely went after the fever subsided after 5 days of feeling it and after 5 years of knowing my body pretty well, but with little experience of conception until more recently, I was so convinced that this month was a positive step in our natural conception attempts.

Trish, Ubba your experiences though give me some comfort. Best of luck with everything and thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone for your words. I really appreciate you being candid and caring about this.
    xx

I just had a thought that perhaps your temp was up because you already had the bug (incubation periods are usually 2 weeks I think) and your body was fighting it? I don't know if there's any way to know what happened, I've been absolutely convinced beyond a doubt that I was pregnant and turned out not to be. Can you speak to your Dr about it?
