Unhappy I still look 6mths pregnant 1yr after birth.

My daughter is now nearly a year old and I still look six months pregnant. I'm beginning to worry that something could be wrong. I haven't heard of anyone looking pregnant for this long after giving birth - has anyone else had this experience? My stomach is very hard and taught as well - not at all flabby or 'empty'. Should I see a doctor about this or will I just get told that I'm overeacting. It looks very obvious - people are convinced that I'm pregnant (and I'm still in maternity clothes). I put on 30kgs with the pregnancy and am slowly losing the weight, but my tummy looks completely out of proportion. Help! Freaking out!

Are you exercising as well as dieting? A good fitness instructor should help. Even with having had a baby, 30kg is a lot to lose in a year, so you're doing really well in starting to shift it. It's hard to know where to begin sometimes.

I had someone think I was preggers in the supermarket on Monday night - and Liebling is two and a half years old! So you're really not alone.

did you have a c/s or vb? i find after having c/s's that your stomach looks wierd, and if you're bloated or something, you do tend to look pregnant. well, i know i do anyway.

another thing that may be contributing is if your stomach muscles took a good beating while pregnant and you had some pretty major separating of the tissue. i had quite a large gap running down the middle of mine (almost 4 fingers wide) and i was told my the midwife in hossy that there were specific exercises that i had to do (the phsyio also was there which was a bit embarrassing! lol!).

    just a thought...

You could buy some of those control undies from Target? They go up to under your bra and smooth everything out and make your tummy flat, get them really tight. Won't make the problem go away but it's an instant pick me up in your jeans!

That must be very frustrating for you. It might be worth seeing a physio to check out your tummy muscles - it might be something that some core strength exercises could help out with.

Hi, I'm in the same boat. Just had it pointed out to me that my stomach muscles seperated during pregnancy, therefore there is nothing much holding it all in, therefore I look pregnant! I have heard that pilates is good for core strength, also definately go see a physio.

Question Update from member? How did you go?

Hi, I'm just wondering how you went. I see your Post was in Feb and it's now several months later. Did you see a physio? I have the same problem, my son is now 1 and people are so confident I'm pregnant that I have had 6 people ask me in the last 8 weeks how far along I am. I put on 34 kilos in my pregnancy, I struggled with carpel tunnel, pre-eclapmsia and the list goes on. Definitely not due to my lack of effort, however I have only lost 24 kilos with alot of it on my belly. It is very pronounced. I also thought there was something wrong and went to my GP, he basically just told me it's fat and I left crying! After reading this thread, I'm wondering if I also have the muscle separation and will consult a physio. It would be good to hear whether you did this too though and whether it has helped you
