My DH thought the umbilical cord went into the baby's mouth, like a scuba

We were having a chat a few weeks ago I was telling him about the uterus and how it fills up with water. He then asks, "Well, how does the baby breathe? Won't it drown in the water?"

I then explain that the baby is getting all the oxygen and nutrients it needs through the umbilical cord. To which he comments that it is handy that it goes into the baby's mouth, kinda like a scuba. I then kept a straight face, pointed out the belly button and explained that.

I promptly then fell about the floor laughing. To his credit he went bright red and is totally embarrassed. I have since been told I'm not allowed to tell anyone else the story after telling my best friend, other friends we have seen, the mail man and anyone that will listen.

THEN the other day I am telling him about some independent birth classes that I wanted us to attend. He isn't that keen and came up with the argument, "Surely those classes are for dumb people." I then look him dead in the eye and point out this was coming from the main who thought the umbilical cord was like a scuba. He promptly conceded that perhaps it was a good idea.

So there you go. I hope that gives you all a good laugh! I still get a little chuckle...

My grandma had to re-educate a pregnant woman who thought you pressed your belly button, your tummy opened up down the linea nigra and out came the baby!

Now that's someone who needed the classes.

Love the scuba idea though. That rocks.

Great story, poor DH .. that is something he'll never be allowed to forget

Well, my MIL had to find out from her husband, AFTER getting pregnant, how babies are born She said that she grew up in a house where her mother never talked about sex and when her first AF came, her mother just gave her the rags and told her to keep herself clean
Don't know what she thought happend at birth before hand ... she said she just never thought about it.
Needless to say how important it is to teach your kids (sons and daughters) about the human body
