    packet cakes

If I have a packet cake which says to put 1/2 a cup of vegetable oil can I substitute that with butter?

I know fat's fat but I would rather the taste of a cake with butter not oil

    I'm not a cook so I really don't know

    Thanks

You probably could... But I'd melt it first and let it cool. The only reason why oil and butter vary is the milk solids but I can't see it being a problem in a cake mix. I SUCK at cake mixes... ironic huh? I can do the best 10 step chocolate fudge wedding cake with ganache filling and white chocolate buttercream but you put a cake mix in front of me and I always stuff up the ingredients and there is usually only 2 or 3!!!! What the?!

mmmmm....10 step chocolate fudge wedding cake with ganache filling and white chocolate buttercream *drools* Elaborate cakey goodness lol.

I love baking, but just don't let me decorate anything - I suck. DH is much better at decorating cakes than I am! lol. Even the Women's Weekly birthday cake book, with the seemingly easy to follow instructions is too hard for me. Icing and sprinkles I can do, but that's it.
