has anyone sat the STAT testing??? ( SA )

I am looking at going to Uni and would have to sit the STAT exam as I am now 30 so would have to go in as a mature age entry, I dont have a good TER score LOL so I know that wont get me anywhere plus its been 12 or so years since I left anyway WOW

I am just wanting to ask how you found the exam,

    was it really difficult ?
did you study for it ?
if so what kinds of things did you study, I know I can get the last years test from the ACER site at a cost of $20 or $30 or something like that so I may do that anyway

I guess what I am needing to know for myself is will I be okay sitting it, I am not to good at exams and well obviously havent had to do anything like that for a really long time.

any advice or tips would be awsome

    TIA

It's supposed to test your actual skills - so it's hard to study for it. It has maths, english (spelling, grammar, etc) and logic parts.

Some TAFE's and WEA's do preparation tests - check with your local one..

Thanks Nettie, I did do a prep course about 4 years ago but never went any further, not sure if it really helped me alot though, although in saying that I also wonder if because it was just completely the wrong time in my life for me to even think about study if that is perhaps why I didnt find it helpful, so I will be looking into it again

    thanks again

Elle i did not sit the test due to timing and im glad now i didnt..
im doing the Unisa foundation course( flinders have a bridging course)
basically teaches how to be a uni student and since it has been 10 yrs since i studied it has been SOO valuable..
it is another pathway in to uni too so you dont have to sit STAT test or if youu fail that you can do this course..and get a direct entry in to some courses

Thanks doudou, I have seen that course and wondered if it was worth doing so thankyou for that, I am thinking what I will do is sit the test and if I dont get the score I need which is a 92 LOL I will have to look at other options and those are doing the foundation course or doing yr 12 again externally to gain a TER

its so funny, I hated and I mean hated school I didnt want a bar of it, and for the most part just didnt go, or went and just left to go shopping LOL I was a terrible student and couldnt wait to get out and now here I am at 30 and I am so excited and cant wait to study again OMG its funny to me becuase I have grown up so much, the 17 year old me wouldnt recognise the 30 year old me now hahahaha amazing how things change hey!!!!

elle - I did the test in 98. I think it's worth getting the previous years test. I studied for it and got into the course I wanted to. the foundation courses are great... anything to help you with understanding the requirements of university. I've just graduated from my degree - highly recommend that you start reading (anything and everything), and you might also want to read some books on speed reading etc.

I was in exactly your situation.. didn't like high school but was absolutely over the moon about going to uni as a mature aged student.

You may want to consider doing another university course in the meanwhile - I wouldn't go back and do year 12 again.. much better if you could do a year of arts - get used to writing essays, exams etc... Talk to one of the course coordinators for the degree you want to get in, and ask their advice on what's the other ways of getting into the course (ie transfering after doing a year of arts, or general science or whatever it is)

    Have fun!!
