Question Urgent help ... DP has shocking migraine (Sorry TMI)

    Hi all,

To cut to the chase as i need urgent advice ... My 3 year old DD whom is usually lovely decided last night to belt DP on the eyebrow with the X-Box hard plastic handset which set him off to yell (which he has never on that level done before, which upset him in doing so also) at her as is an instant reaction as he told me later was that he wanted to stamp that idea of her ever doing it again as the past 6mths at playgroup another girl her age has been pushing & shoving her (her mother doing nothing about it, she treats like it's a game, the Mother that is) and our DP has done this to another child this week which i was horrified about.

Moments after DP yelled at our DD he had the onset of a migraine ... had no usual migraine tablets in the house so i gave him other tablets for migraine he hasn't had before ... well, moments later he started to vomit then for the next 6 - 7 hours he vomited about a dozen times (having diarrhoea once, the last time).

If i have ever vomited from a migraine, i have once or twice then after the migraine goes then i feel great.

But DP today still has a headache (not a migraine as he calls it) and i have given him (only tabs in the house) Panadol Rapid every 4 hours which i thought would be gentler on his stomach. He has managed some toasts but that's all.

Sadly in Ballarat there is a shortage of GP's which will make it a nightmare to try & get into one tomorrow ...but he won't go to the hospital.

My question is Does this sound ' normal ' ?? Could someone vomit for that many hours after getting a severe headache/migraine in this manner ??

    Any advice welcome

Could he have had concussion do you think? sounds a bit worrying, I would prob get him checked out tomorrow even if yu have to go to emergency, vomiting after a head bump is not good.
Hopefully its just tummy bug that happened to come along at the same time though.

I will vomit for a few hrs with a migrain and my dad gets them bad and will vomit for days. But if it is not sitting right with you then take him to the hospital. I got to the ER when I get a migrain thats bad and they usually see you ASAP and give drugs and fluids.

Hope he will feel better soon!!

Is is possible the pain meds you gave him made him vomit. I react very badly to strong meds with codeine in them - lots of vomiting. Migrains can cause vomiting too.

my df gets migraines all the time, and the last one went for days, with lots of vomitting, the only thing that really helped him was accupuncture, he also went to the gp, who reccommended it as one of the best cures. sorry i can't help anymore...

lorelle, i would be taking him doesn't sound to good i have suffered migraines since i was 13 so far to many years for my liking and finally i have a dr who is helping me they have me on a anti epiletic med which controls the seritonine within the brain 9 well to my knowledge any ways and i have been migraine free for 8 months although i gets headaches stills only when i'm tired or very emotional but also before this wonder drug i call it ( it makes you lose weight too woohoo) i was taking what the hospital regime was which is 3 aspalgin taken 10 minutes after a maxalon as maxalon increases the effectiveness of the absorption of the aspalgin with plenty of water to wash it down as it is the foulist remedy to date but it works ... i hope he his feeling better soon

I would be getting it checked out ASAP......I dont mean to alarm you but my sister just recently (as in just 3 weeks ago) went to hospital with a sudden onset migraine pain that wuldnt budge pretty much like you are describing...it turned out to be a brain anuerysm.....seriously I would not muck around with head pain.......it has been a real wake up call for us a family as to how quickly it can happen......

melbel ... wow, you must have esp as i think DP might be trying to ignore it as his SIL only before Xmas was having severe headaches & a few weeks later found out she has brain cancer, which she has just finished chemo for !!!

rayray ... yep, the Base is looking good to me !!

Mr Squidipa ... so true !!

** So far he is looking much better & even having a laugh BUT i still gonna persuade him to get it checked out tomorrow **

Thanks everyone for all your incredibly helpful advice

    Another vote for hospital here.

even if it's concussion, it can be potentially much worse than a sore head. Tell him real men know when to go to the doctor... ie: NOW!

    Thumbs up

Too funny entreat IYKWIM ... men are shockers at this !!

**Update** ... DP took day off work today, was heaps & heaps better ... he even looks a ton better ... He just has a very dull headache now & i got his usual migraine tabs & he is better again ... And NOPE he wasn't gonna go to the Doc's or Hosp, grrrr ... BUT i'm still keeping my eye on him ... He reckons he will be fine for work tomorrow (IT industry he works) !!

    Thanks again everyone
