So I've had a quick look through and cant find anything on the forums in regards to the dreadded swine flu.
My little princess has been tested today and commenced the medication for it. She's so sick and never been like this - it's awful and heartbreaking, just wish I could take it away for her.
Anyway, has anyone got any advice/tips/suggestions on getting liquid form medicine into a 3 year old who HATES it? I've tried the disguising, tried the syringe down the throat (Which just made her vomit)
My DD was admitted to hospital with tonsilitis & glandular fever & the main reason we were in there so long is because she refused her meds. They had to put a nasal gastric tube down. She was really dehydrated as well.
Have you tried it in a milk shake? Thats how I got them into DD after hossy. Warm milo's were good too. But she was on abs, I think they are a bit easier to hide.
I find white/pink creamy type medicines are easier. The clear/red medicines are really hard to hide.
Bribery is good too. I know it shouldn't be used, but a drink of lemonade, or a choccy frog after might help?
Goodluck My sister just got over it. The cough will last a bit afterwards if she has it the same as my sister & mum.
My suggestion would be to grab a doona or a sheet, lay her down on it and then wrap it around her tightly so her arms are wrapped up in it. Then get someone else to hold her tight in a big hug across the bed. To prevent her from gagging, be careful how far down the throat you stick the syringe. Put it down the side of her mouth, on the inside of the cheek, and then slowly trickle it in.
If she is really difficult, you may have to consider holding her nose so she has no choice but to swallow it and she can't spit it. I hate doing it, but sometimes you have to.
