IOh my god, thay cannot do that.
It calls for unfair dismissal.
I would be taking further action.
Was he on a contract or anything?????
my dp has been working at racq for about 6 years now, he was the supervisor at our local shopping centre branch. racq is the worst place for employees, the state manager is an absolute witch, and is against pretty much anything to do with family. eg - when i had to go in for an early c/s with xavier, dp told work he had to take leave early, and was asked why someone else couldn't look after me???
they pick on their employees something chronic and make it a very stressful place to work. today, dp got called in for a meeting, and was told that he was being sacked from his position, and would be made a relief worker, meaning he has to drive all over bris whenever a branch needs another worker. the reason?? we'd all gotten the flu really bad, so dave had to take a couple of days off work, so he was deemed 'unreliable'. it was also mentioned that the kids and i dropped into the branch a couple of times a week to say hello, bbecause this is 'innappropriate', umm, he works in our local shopping centre, if we see him, we're going to say hello!
bastards. i told him to email his manager and tell her to stick the job up her arse, we can survive a couple of months off savings until he finds another job. they don't pay him enough to put up with the amount of crap he has to.
IOh my god, thay cannot do that.

sneaky though, he wasn't fired, he was demoted, i told him to quit cause they're not worth the stress. the poor bugger, he gets the worst migraines because of that job, and for nothing in return, the pay is insulting, holidays are a joke and the managers are morons. so, the end result is that he quit, which means we can't dispute anything...
After 6 years working for them, your DP deserves a lot better treatment than that. It seems like they have got around their obligations with regard to dismissal because they haven't technically fired him - they have just changed his position. What a joke!
i'll be cancelling all my policies with them, the state manager made dp write down the number of times a fellow employee went to the toilet everyday whilst she was pregnant, he did, but told them that she still got all her work done - and they still fired her. god forbid they might have to pay for maternity leave. the way the treat their employees is disgusting.
That sux! Some employers are just absolutely useless. If he has an exit interview with HR before he finishes up, that's his chance to lay it all out for them.
That is awful. How can you be sacked for being sick? That is unfair dismissal. I would be taking it further.
My goodness that is disgusting! I dont have racq and I'm glad now!
