Hi there I havent added for a while now but keep checking in. My daughter has had previous problems throughout this pregnancy and is now 26 + 3. She has been diagnosed with an irritable uterus and has had many stays in hospital throughout. For three days she has had strong and consistant contractions and was admitted to hospital. She was given the fibronectin test and it was negative. Also nifedopene and steroids injections (hope the spelling is correct) She is now worried about the side effects. She asked the dr and he was casual about it all and evasive. Has anyone had similar problems? Thankyou in advance for replies.

: spelling error
I had a shocking irritable uterus with threatened pre-term labour with my son. I was in and out of hospt from 24 weeks. I had contractions every day and when they would build in strength and frequency I would take extra Nepeth (I cant spell it at all but the one your daugter is on) and get to hospt, I also had several doses of the steroids and multiple ultrasounds - around 25 for the whole pregnancy. My additional complications were a baby with significant heart disease and a two vessel umbilical cord (instead of three vessels) and a very small and weak placenta.
The only side effect I found was I got shocking headaches due to the drugs (and probably the stress too). The other side effect is a drop in the mothers blood pressure as the Nepth is a muscle relaxant and blood pressure drug.
We managed to get all the way to 36 weeks. He was small though, 1.6kg (3lb 10oz in the old scale). But his lungs were nice due to the amount of steroids I had.
I am now 36 weeks pregnant with bubs number two and while I was told there was a 50/50 chance of having the IU again and small bub complications too we are both fine this time! Yay.
I wish your daughter luck! I kept sane by learning to knit and crotchet, one rule I had was that while doing any project for the baby (blankets etc) I wasnt allowed to dwell on negative thoughts about what might happen to my bub. It helped keep a space in my day that was worry free as well.
Thankyou Rachel
I must say it is nice to hear something positive ablout all this. All the way through this pregnancy she has had complications. Just when you think 1 milestone has passed and she has passed another safe zone something else pops up. Ironic yesterday I brought her some wool and am teaching her to knit. Hopefully this will ease a little bit of her stress. Thankyou and have a great day.
