i've had a read through the baby hammocks thread (albeit quickly) and it seems that most, if not all, have had great experiences with the hammock. my cousin used it with her DS and he was a dream sleeper from the first night at home and still is (at the age of 17 months).
DH and i have finally come to a place to discuss the possibility of a second bub though it's still probably another year away. i've decided that if we do have another, i'd like to try the hammock because DS is such a shocking sleeper.
has anyone had any bad experiences with the hammock??? how was the transition to the cot??? any other things we should know??
I used one with my third, she hated sleeping anywhere else. I got it when she was 8 weeks old best thing I did, it was the amby hammock brand. She slept in it till she was 8 months when she learnt to roll onto her stomach in it, she had been rolling on the floor since 10 weeks.
The transition was fine took 3 days and she self settles, she is a good sleeper now at 13 months. She still wakes for night feeds and was doing this in the hammock to. My other kids still had night feeds till 18months -2 years so I am used to that.
DD1 was a shocking sleeper and would NOT sleep in cot. so i bought a hammock during second pregnancy in anticipation of a bad sleeper again. however DD2 (even though is a bit of a cat napper) will actually sleep in her cot. i chose to keep her in cot rather than hammock just so i didnt have to worry about the transition from one to the other. so my advice is save the money but wait until you see what kind of sleeper you get.
i bought one while i was pg with ds2, but tbh he actually didn't like it. he would cry everytime we put him in it. i ended up selling it on ebay.
he's happy sleeping in his cot.
I would second what hollo said, save the money and see what bub is like, and if he doesn't settle in his cot/bassinet then get a hammock. That is what I did.
hollo and sweetpea - i'm able to borrow one from my cousin so we won't have to worry about the $$. and sweetpea - thanks for your experience with the transition to the cot. doesn't sound too bad at all.
ginger - this is the first time i've heard someone say their bub didn't like it. thanks for letting me know.
kim - we're hoping we couldn't have that much bad luck to have 2 shocking sleepers in a row but it looks like you did!!!!
i think we'll definitely give it a go if/when we have another bub.
