Oh I hear you. Yick... I do the big chux roll and throw every few days. I also use the pinoclean disposable wipes for benches, high chair etc, and that get me a bit longer out of the chux. And I have 4 rolls of paper towel around the kitchen too...

Jols I use Enjo ones and wash them every second day and they are great. Also the ballerina (I think) dish cloths are the Robust ones you can chuck in the washing machine and get lots of uses out of them. I have also been testing some new Coles environmentally friendly bench wipes which are great ( on the mums panel) if you want something disposable, biodegradable and all natural (they are made from bamboo).

I have chux that i chuck out every few days...
I use to stick them in the wash, but i woudl loose them or forget
I use METHOD wipes to wipe down surfaces or the chux and method cleaning products.

They are gross, i try to limit the disposable things that i use though as the thought of all those wipes going into landfill makes me shudder!

I do chux but I wash them. Or rinse them out and stick them in a teeny bit of bleach overnight.

You can't just throw millions of those things away and it saves a bundle if you wash them!

You sound like my DP - at the moment he want to ban them from the house! He prefers paper towel and a spray gun.

When we do have them, I favour the thick, quality chux, ("Robuste" or the like) and soak them in a plastic container with water and a splash of bleach just for 15 mins. You could do it as often as you like. The thin chux just falls apart with the bleach treatment, but the thick one lasts OK. I also pop it in the washing machine every now and then.

The other important thing as I'm sure you well know is to wring out well and hang where it can dry after every use. Uggh, I remember an ex flatmate who always left the wet and dirty chux in the sink - that was the main reason I chose to move out!! At one house I was in with a very damp kitchen, I rigged up two hanging pegs above the sink that I strung the chux on after use.

Also we're strict on what various cloths get used for - one for washing up; one for wiping surfaces where food is served; one for cleaning sink/stove; and paper towel for any floor or gross spills.

I bought a three pack of microfibre cloths from Bunnings and rotate every few days - they wash very well.

We bought the huge STRONG red industrial strength cloths (like chux) and either just hang them in the sun or chuck them in to soak at the end of the day.

I HATE the smell of wet dishclothes

We stick them in a bit of bleach & hot water for a while at the end of the day, then put them on the dish rack so they dry out completely

I bought one of those big rolls of chux and I change clothes everyday or every second day at most and I've only just run out. That was 6 months of dish cloths!!!! Im getting another one this week. Save so much money!

When I used to use a regular cloth I would soak it every couple of days. Now I use the Enjo bench top cloth, and I love it!!! Can just chuck it in the washing machine and it smells bewdiful again Saves lots of money, and the environment! Plus, it honestly does a better job of cleaning than the chemicals, I swear!!!

20 - 30 seconds for a wet chux in the microwave and you'll have it smelling new. It cooks the bacteria. Learnt it on a domestic goddess show. Same can be done with sponges (NOT METAL ONES!) and I've even done it with enjo. Make sure you have somewhere to hang them that is airable. i have this nifty little holder that sticks to my sink that holds sponges and I neutralise cloths in the microwave and hang them over the tap. This also helps them to dry quickly. If you're really desperate chuck them in the dishwasher with the rest of the stuff. that cleans them too just make sure they are secured properly or you'll end up with them burning on the element.

boomba - ENJO rocks !!! i just spent over $1000 on the stuff and now my house sparkles !! i dont have any chemicals in my house apart from my laundry and even then its all green and eco-ey love the stuff !!!!!
everything stays cleaner for longer to ..

back in the BE days (Before Enjo) i used the thicker dish coths or chux brand only , if it got smelly i would soack in bleach (how nasty now that im a convert) and wash them . and reuse them i am a frugal queen

i also nuked them for 2 mins on high in the microwave to kill bacteria , if you wash in warm soapy water then nuke em they come out smelling fresh AND its the best way to loosen any caked on food in the microwave , makes it oh so easy to clean
