My sister was 5kg under her pre pregnancy weight when she was weighed before her c/s. Her baby was just under 4kg.
I stayed the same weight throughout my whole pregnancy with my 2nd and she was perfectly fine.
No, I'm definately not dieting!
I have lost about 7kg since falling pregnant - am now 65kg (and am in my healthy weight range). DH and I did do one cycle of IVF although I didn't gain weight during this. I can only put it down to eating healthy and giving up wine! LOL!!
I've lost 2kg since my visit to the OB last month - I'm off to see him again on Friday. My weight just seems to go down weekly instead of rising. My bump is getting bigger but I've definately lost it - weight that is....not the mind yet! People at work have commented. I feel like saying was I really so FAT before?!!!
Has anyone else had this happen?

Oh yeah, I was constantly freaking out that my poor baby must be starving in there because every antenatal check, I'd lost 2kgs. The bump got bigger, but the rest of me got smaller, and then towards the end of the pregnancy I stacked on a few kilos and had a healthy 3.6kg bub. My GP assured me that weight loss in the first and second trimester was quite common, and that a weight gain of around 12kg over the whole pregnancy was normal (I think I whacked a bit more than 12kg on at the end hahaha, but she said it's very common for women to only put on 'baby weight' and not anything more).
As long as you're eating well and feeling healthy, the gain/loss is fine.![]()
I lost about 10kgs in my first trimester due to continual vomiting. Now at 29 weeks I'm still not back to the weight that I was when I conceived, although it is slowly going back on. That being said, my face is still thin so I'm not putting the weight back on all over, just the baby bit (if that makes sense!).
As long as you are not deliberately dieting or depriving yourself, then I wouldn't stress too much.
Another reason it can happen is because you are so much more conscious of putting high quality food into your body that your body loses weight while you are putting on the baby weight. As long as your bump is getting bigger and you know within yourself that you aren't restricting your food intake then you will be fine.
wow i keep loosing and gaining within the same 1 kilo![]()
I only put on a total of 4 kgs with DD2, but I lost weight first from severe ms.
Thanks ladies. I'm not "scared" about what the doc will say on Friday now!! I have been making sure that I've been eating healthy so if I can maintain that after the baby's born that would be fantastic!!
i lost something like 20kg while i was pg. between ms, increased metabolism because of the baby needing food, and the extra increase of having to snack on healthy food alllll day to keep ms at bay alllll pregnancy, it just fell off me
Squid - don't weigh yourself daily - don't try to make up for weight lost. ideally, you shouldn't be weighing yourself more than monthly, though weekly is probably more normal for a pregnant woman. your weight varies day to day, even hour to hour depending on fluid retention etc. if you're focussing on the numbers you're not doing yourself any favours - it's that kind of behaviour that can lead to eating disorders (not saying that's where you're going, but it CAN lead that way). if younger kids see mum and dad obsessing on the numbers every day, it can mess with their heads
Sorry cass to highjack but wanted to respondHope you understand.
Bg i do agree with you but i find if i was to weigh weekly i could very easily gain 5 or more kilos my body is very strange like that i already don't fit into my undies bra's tops or leggings its terrible.I bought a couple of second hand bras in an op shop thats helped but cant find clothes cheaply and dont have loads to spend leggings are 16-25 each thats like heaps for me thats like a family meal over 2 nights to feed 4 kids and 2 adults here. i do retain alot of fluid yepand u are right about kids seeing this and thinking its bad. I in no way want to take that point away you are without a doubt 100% correct. I weight in the morning behind a closed door in bathroom.
As ya know hubbie has been dropping the killo's due to his sleep apnoea that caused him to end up in hospital via ambulance. The kids do see this, i hope and i try to let them know that this is a good thing because he needs to loose some weight because his body is struggling. My goal is not to go over 40 kilos in this pregnancy i know when past half way i can gain amazing weights. I am already quite over weight at 168cm and 82.9 kilo pre preg weight was 82.4 kilo. being alreday over weight and having prolaps issues, knee problems and i need to be very carful with my intake of food. I know i can afford to cut back on my eating to loose weight but i dont agree on doing this in pregnancy. I am already feeling run down.
I eat heaps for tea alone recently its been pretty much this quantity of food. Large plate of shepherd pie with a vegi bake and veg on side, 2 cookies 4 bannana's, juice water coffee and milk yes all of this, then 2 rows of chocolate and about 8 or more pancakes. This is an average dinner for me. Starting with the vegetables first. I consume 500grams -1 kilo worth of fruit daily i have even been know to eat a bowl of cereal after all of that amount on top. I do not normally eat this much but in pregnancy i do.
