Well, dp and I have come to the decision that Ava-Jayde is too big for her cot and we need to get her a bed. I've had a look at like your usual furniture stores ie: Superamart etc and I don't really want a boring old single bed kwim? I want something a bit nicer. So I was just wondering where you bought your toddler's first bed from? (a store that we'd have in brisbane/sunshine coast would help).
i got Noah's from Snooze... it is v lovely but it is just a king single white bed..
i think some people get specific toddler beds from target etc - ones that are themed etc if that's what you are after..
Have a look around and see if there is specialty kids bed shop. There are a few here in Melbourne. I was really struggling to find a nice, solid (and not too expensive!) bed for DS, and then someone suggested I try our nearest kids bed shop. They had HEAPS of good stuff, and reasonably priced too. I am really, really happy with the bed we bought him.
Mind you, I think it's a lot easier to find nice beds for girls . I have a friend who bought her DD's bedroom stuff from Bev Marks, and loves it. Don't know if you have that store up there, there's a number of them in Melb. HTHs.
We're looking at toddler beds for DS and have been looking at IKEA (do you have Ikea there?). They are much, much cheaper than the bed shops. Not sure if their sizing is standard though, might be hard to get sheets and stuff.
We have an IKEA one for Ds and i just started a thread on how hard it is to find fitted sheets that fit! But tey are really gorgeous beds and cheaper than most places!
I've looked at Ikea and snooze and they're sort of like my last resort, i really want somethign that's going to last and teh beds I looked @ Ikea were just those crapy metal frame ones, which I dont' want she'll wack her head on it lol. I looked up a website called awesome beds and it's a kids specialty store. Reasonably priced and even ava was like :O at some of the beds. They have a dora bed hahaha she wants that one, don't think so. But there's a nice Toddler's first bed on there that is pretty cheap. Gosh, this buying kids things is never ending isn't it!
We got an IKEA one too. Its the perfect height for him (and her now) to climb in and out of, and if they fall out of bed, its not too far for them to fall (so no screaming in the middle of the night!)
LOL KL, that's why we opted to go straight into a big bed, rather than bothering with a toddler bed. I had actually planned on buying an Ikea bed, but when I went and checked them out, they were a little less sturdy than I was hoping for, so I changed my mind. Like I said, I'm extremely happy with the quality of the bed we have bought, although yes, it was more exxy than the Ikea beds . But definitely not as much as Captain Snooze etc.
yeah the snooze one's are crazy! Was looking at one before. Just a plain white frame, nothing special and they wanted like 1500 bucks.. im like errr wtf, don't bloody think so!
We went to snooze in the end but opted for a "teen" single bed in the base/mattress style with a built in trundle. This will last until the early teens when we will need to buy a stronger mattress for better back support. We pull out the trundle each night and that is how he climbs in and out, and is what he would land on if he fell out (which he never has).
This was around 700 ish - so half the price of a frame&mattress with a trundle&mattress package. I also ended up buying the floor stock (they replace every 6 weeks or so) so saved another 200. It looked brand new - no scuffs or marks or anything.
HTH
yeah I am looking at trundles it's sort of what I wanted in the case she were to fall out, save having to drag her cot mattress in everynght to put next to her bed.
We got a Cars plastic and metal frame toddler bed from toys 'r' us. i think it was half price at $99. The sheet and quilt set was $50 reduced from $80). I didnt want to get him a single bed because he couldn't climb back in bed. In his actual toddler bed he loves it, he even puts himself down for a day nap.
