    Eczema on face

    Hi there!
DS (2) has eczema. It's mainly on his face, but can come up in very very small patches on his torso and calves. He has never had any on the insides of his elbows, knees or any other areas of creasing on his body.
He's had it from around 6 months of age, but never on his face until the last 6-12 months. It seems to be gradually getting worse. I know with winter, the dryness of the air due to having the fire/heaters going doesn't help, but there's not alot I can do about that.
He doesn't bathe every day, and when he does, it's with plain water or we sometimes add some moogoo in it. We have used Alpha Kerri lotions and oils in the past, but nothing seems to have that much of an effect on it.
It's quite red at times, it doesn't seem to worry him at all, and I've never seen him scratching it. It looks horrible and I really feel bad for my little man. We have recently been using moogoo eczema and psoriasis cream, but I'm still waiting to see any results. I am applying it several times a day.
Dust could be a huge problem, but due to where we live, that's something we cannot control.
I'm changing his bedclothes often and trying to do what I can. It's very hard to keep anything wet off his face ( I think it seems worse after a bath/liquid coming into contact with his face).
What else can I do? Should I see someone about it?
Neither DH nor I had eczema as kids, so this his kind of come from nowhere. It is worse now at this age than it has ever been before. I've been told that most kids grow out of infantile eczema, but at what age?
This post is a bit everywhere but I am wondering if anyone has any advice or ideas for me?
    TIA

It wouldn't hurt to even ask your local pharmacist, taking DS along.

Steph had a bit of eczema, but not too bad, and not on her face. The pharmacist recommended dermaveen cream, and a cortisone cream for when it was really red and raw looking (to be applied sparingly and not more than three times per day for no more than a few days in a row).

There's a few threads with lots of suggestions, if you haven't read them already. Hope you can find something that works. Sounds like you are already doing so much.

depends on your bub as to what works or not. We've been thru heaps of diff creams and the only thing that can keep it under control is a really strong steroid cream which is to be used sparingly esp on his face. I'm still waiting for a miracle to happen, that my poor baby is rid of eczema. I feel so bad for him so I can sympathise with you.
Have you ever tried sorbolene instead of moogoo as the cow protein might be a trigger factor? Also, I've read but yet to try bath with oats or olive oil.
Have you been to a GP? if the skin is weeping, then it might be infected & bub needs to be put on antibiotics for a couple of days?
Sorry to answer your post with more questions, but hope you find your answers soon enough!

    Hi Niadla,

It is terrible seeing your baby with eczema. DD has really bad eczema even till now she has it. It was worse when she was little, her eczema made her scratch till she bled and her scalp was weeping so much it would wet your clothes if you carried her.

The thing that really helped DD's eczema as actually some chinese creams I got from a chinese doctor. All the other steroid based creams didnt really work for her and I did not want to use it often.

I havent been using the chinese creams for a while now and only once in a while when DD's eczema is bad.

Anyway, it did get better over time! alot better without the creams. It is only on her hands now.

Neither my husband nor myself have eczema but I do have hayfever which can cause eczema as well.

I think each treatment is different to each case. People would swear by one treatment that may help them but not your DS.

You can try to bathe DS with QV bath oil or rolled oats (apparently this stops itching) or use goat soap. For me QA bath oil worked.

I was also told to buy Allergend bed covers. Apparently this does wonders but it is not cheap as dust mite can be a major culprit. I avoided this by changing her sheets regularly.

Goodluck and I hope you find something that works for DS soon!

My DD started getting eczema on her face and various parts of her body and what I have found is:
    • QV cream and Dermaveen Bath and Shower Oil dried her out more and made the problem so bad we had to resort to steriod cream.
    • Sorbolene cream made it worse and made her come out in an rash
    • Gaia - all products - made it worse
    • Olive oil helped for a little while, I now put some in her bath which stops it from drying her skin out further. I now add a little Moogoo Wash as well and that has helped heaps!
    • The Moogoo Eczema and Psoriasis Cream didn't do anything for her face but when it had absorbed completely into her skin, I followed with Moogoo MSM Cream and her body is free from any eczema!
    • I did find the MSM cream cleared her face on it's own...

    So:
She gets bathed in Olive oil and Moogoo wash mixed in a bath
Twice a day she gets moisturised with Moogoo MSM Soothing Cream
If she comes out in any eczema spots then I use the Moogoo Eczema and Psoriasis Cream followed by Moogoo MSM Soothing Cream

    HTH!
