    sleeping question

i'm sorry, i'm sure there is a section or posts here about sleep issues but i can't seem to find them...

DS is 6 and a half months old and for the past 3 mths he's in a routine where he has a bottle about 7pm and then bed at 8ish. i find he wakes at 2am for a bottle and then he's up at 5 to play. the last few nights it's been 11pm, 3am and 5.
i work full time as a kindy teacher and i know every child is different, but it's so frustrating when i have all these people (parents at my centre in particular) who say to me "oh you poor thing, my bub has slept through since 3 mths" etc. believe it or not this doesn't help me...ha ha
i'm doing this on my own at the moment whilst DH is away for work, and i'm handling it well however i can't lie, i'm very tired...
he did fantastic about 2 mths of age and was sleeping up to 9 hrs but now it's 7hrs tops. i tried waking him at 11/12pm but he still woke at 3 or 4am. so i gave up on that.
is there any suggestions anyone could give me on anything that has worked to help their child sleep longer, or do i just go with it and hope he sleeps longer on his own, eg: i've seen a few baby sleep books in the shops.
other than this he is a fantastic baby so i really can't complain at all....just a tad tired...
    cheers

All i can say is take comfort in the fact you are not along, although it may seem like it. I think the mum's with good sleepers are quick to shout it from the tree tops but the ones who's babies are still waking are too tired to shout.

I do know what you mean, i get a little sick of hearing it when i am feeling exhausted too!

I just replied to another very similar thread. I think it is the age for a few more wake ups. It doesn't help you know, but sleep will get better again soon. My 7 month old is coming out the other side of exactly the same thing.
My hubby is away too, it's hard isn't it?

    vent away!
Is he showing any signs of teething, maybe that's what is bothering him?

My DS never slept through until abotu 7 months, and for about 3 weeks before that we had a shocking time with sleeping, worse than when he was a new born even. However, we got through it and things are even better now. He did get his first teeth at 7 months too, so I thought maybe that was why we'd had a bad few weeks.

    Hang in there

I think parents of babies that sleep through the night have just been lucky - not one that I've asked has been able to tell the me the sure fire 'trick' to it for me to copy - its pure luck LOL

The only thing I have found that works is that my DS (6 months) always sleeps longer when in our bed - not practical, but a quick fix for the sleep deprived!!

thank-you for your replies. i agree i think it's just luck if they sleep through or not. i have been thinking it could be the teething, he's been dribbling like mad for a cpl of months now, so i've been on the look out for some teeth. and yes i've also noticed he does sleep longer in my bed too, which yes is a bonus when i can give him a bottle at 2 and still be warm in bed....
