    Travelling with toddlers

OK, so I've been googling safety harnesses for travelling. There is the CARES harness for the plane, and I've found various harnesses to use in taxis etc (they're american.. so not sure they would even ship it to me here, as they don't meet our standards.. since we require actual seats/restraints for our kids here).

Does anyone use these? What's the go with kids 3 & under on planes? I keep reading that they should be in car restraints on the plane?? LOL - unless this is just an American/domestic thing over there??

We are going to Singapore, and I'm really uneasy using taxis without any kind of restraint for the kids, but there are some things we'll be doing that will just be easier to use taxis instead of public transport.

Anyone used any harnesses like these? I did have a thread before about one of the harnesses, but I've since read some not-so-great reviews on that one.

I dunno.. am I just being paranoid? LOL. Do the airlines have special seatbelts for littlies?

What do you do when travelling with young kids?

When we flew down to Tassie in September, the normal seatbelt fit DS and they didn't offer us anything else.

DD had to sit on DH's lap (because she is under 2) and had the seatbelt extension to go around her.

Haven't heard of the harness before but sounds interesting!

The car seat is awful for long haul flights because you can't flip up the arms and lie them down.
I've never heard about the harnesses.

    Hi there

I have a two year old and he got his own seat on the plane with just the regular seatbelt that adults use....it seemed fine to me.

Also, I live in Singapore, and to be honest, you are never in a taxi long enough to necessitate harness/strapping them in like you would at home. Singapore is pretty small! My DS usually sits on my lap and I put the seatbelt over him (the lap bit) and the shoulder bit goes behind him, and over me IYKWIM. SOmetimes he even sits in the middle with his own seatbelt.

I am always really careful to have my arm ready to hold him back if the driver does a quick brake....and some of the drivers can be pretty dodgy (no indicators to change lanes etc) but you can tell them to take it easy too.

We have travelled heaps, both interstate and overseas and I also would never use a car seat on the airplane - too restrictive, especially on long haul flights. We have always either used the seatbelt extension when sitting on our laps or the normal lap belt when on their own seat - both my eldest were in their own seat from 1 onwards as there is no way I will fly anywhere with a toddler on my lap.

As for taxi's in foreign countries, we tend to do what Mini Max does.

eeeek, please don't put a seatbelt over both of you. The pressure from getting caught between an adult and a seatbelt can cause awful internal injuries even in a minor bingle. You're much safer to put the seat belt over you and bubs in a sling.
