    Tips for straightening hair

I just got my hair cut to about chin length, and I LOVE it when its straight. I think its a bit psycho when its curly (read: frizzy), but I find straightening it pretty hard. Its very thick, wavy/curly. At the moment, I blow dry it until its just damp, then TRY to blow dry it straight-ish using a circular brush (which is generally spectacularly unsuccessful), then use my iron (which is quite successful). The whole thing takes forever!

Just wondering if anyone has any cool tips/ products etc that I could use to make it all a little easier.

Also, should I invest in a GHD? Is ironing your hair most days really, horribly bad for it?

    Thanks!

I don't have curly hair but I usually put some straightening balm I bought from Hairhouse Warehouse in my hair then section my hair then take smaller sections from the bigger ones and use a fine tooth comb comb with the straightener behind it to guide it. Does that make sense?

I think the GHD website has videos on how to use their straighteners.

I'm not sure whether ironing would be bad for your hair, my cousin did it for years though until she got a straightener and her hair seems ok.

ok.. a few things. Do u have to blow dry? this will make your hair frizzy and make it hard to straighten. When its wet.. let it dry by itself. Then add some anti frizz serum and straighten small sections at a time.

No straightening every day wont wreck your hair, tho it may make it a little more fragile.. or stringy. Just do a treatment in your hair every 2 weeks and looks for a heat protecting balm or spray for ur hair before u straighten.

No there is no need to get a GHD straightner.

I straighten my hair most days with my GHD. I use a straightening balm which I got from the hairdressers before straightening. I wash my hair at night, so I don't have to wet/blowdry it during the day, it saves time. My hair is naturally very wavy and fluffly, and with straightening it, it turns out really soft and straight.

    YESSSSSS
YOu seriously will not look back....it will be the best chunk of money you have spent. Seriously......i did have a remington one once, but did not compare to the GHD. GHD are set at 280degrees, so of course its going to do some damage to your hari. BUt i find you only have to go over the hair ONCE.....if its done properly, i can usually go 2-3 days without straighteting it again- whereas with my remington model, i had to do it every day.

Buy yourself a good mask treatment for your hair - use it once a week.

    Good luck !

Thanks all! I am very happy to hear I don't have to blow-dry my hair. I HATE that part. At least I can take my straightening iron in front of the telly.

Any recommendations on good straightening balms/ anti-frizz stuff/ heat protectors/ hair masks?

Best to ask your hairdresser, they'll let you know which ones to use and avoid, and will also give you tips.

I would seriously think about getting the GHD. I have extremely frizzy curly hair and when i use my GHD i only need to re-straighten it once a week after i wash my hair.

I have this product called Flat Iron Protection Shine Mist. It helps stop your hair from getting damaged from the straightener. I got it from Price Attack. It comes in a small pink spray bottle.

A good anti Frizz product that i use is Nak bio-marine complex repl-ends spray, also from Price Attack. I use on both myself and DD and it works a treat.
