You have to do an estimate for both your incomes for the full financial year as far as I know.
Both will be taken into account.
You will do another estimate in July for the next financial year, & you'll tell them what you will earn & your FTB may go up (depending on DH's income).
Do you get me? lol
It's not deemed on being employed hun, it's deemed on how much you earn (whatever way you earn it).
So therefore, you estimate your years earnings for 09/10. I imagine you would take Mat leave about April, so by the time that runs out in July, your new income estimate will be zero (excl any income from other sources) and you will receive full entitlement to FTB, dependent on your ptrs earnings.
ONLY estimate 0 if you know you will not be working for the full financial year.
Thanks to both of you for your responses. Its really appreciated, and makes a whole heap of sense.
I have noticed that some of the previous threads people have mentioned over estimating income, so you dont have to pay anything back, is this the best way to do things? - by adding say $10,000 gross on to the estimate, especially since my hubby is on commisson?
AND.. (more questions) how do you apply for baby bonus?
baby bonus/ftb are both applied for on a form you get when baby arrives
ftba is total combined ibncome for ***k fin year
ftbb is lower earner income for full year
wehen bub arrives, you van either apply online or call fao - i applied online cos i knew the process - for most first time parents i suggest calling cos the consultant can help with the answers to make sure they're as accurate as possible. takes about half hour...
just thought I'd let you guys know that FTB claims are now done exclusively online (unless you are unable to read/write, or don't have proficient english skills to complete the claim) - this has only changed in the last few months - you'll get all the paperwork you need from your midwife/hospital - jump online and have a go at the FTB claim, by all means if you get stuck give the FAO staff a call - they'll be happy to help...but they're no longer able to do the claim process over the phone! I've had a look at the online claim and its fairly easy to use - much better than filling in a 100 page paper form (which you'll have to argue to get because they don't even exist anymore! They have to be printed off one by one which takes a long time and wastes a lot of paper!)
I had luke 6 weeks ago and fille dout forms didn't even know I could do it online and had no dramas in fact got letter about the baby bonus and how much about 2 weeks ago so you can still fill out and send in the forms it took about 2 weeks from when I posted till the first baby bonus payment went in
you have to fill in the form you get in hospital for all babies - but you have to do the full claim if you're not already receiving FTB for an older child - if you're already getting it for an older child, the simple form that you get in hospital (about 8 pages from memory) is all you need to fill in.
