I was wondering how much your 3/4 year olds sleep. A while back I stopped making alex take a nap. He would sleep from like 3-6 and then not be sleepy until 10-11 and sleep until 8am. I was tired of not getting time off and wanted him to go to sleep early. Well since I started the no nap he falls to sleep really early. Yesterday he crashed on the sofa at 6pm. Today he was really fussy and tired so I put him down for a nap at 4pm and he hasn't woken up and probably will just sleep until tomorrow at around 7am.
Is it normal for a kid to sleep 12-14 hours from 6-7:30/8 Leo is always saying he is worried that there is something wrong with him for sleeping so much.
how much do your kids sleep and do you think I should get him checked out? Man do you ever stop worrying about your kids..LOL
My 3 1/2 yr old generally has a sleep at 11.30am for about an hr or hr & half. Then goes to bed about 7.00-7.30 until about 6am.. sometimes later.
We do have days where he goes without the day sleep.. like Mon/Tues when he goes to preschool.
If he misses his lunch time sleep (for whatever reason) there's no way I let him sleep in the afternoon.. he just wakes up WAY too cranky.. it's just not worth it. But after he's gone a few days without the day sleep he needs to catch up again. So we definitely still need a day sleep in this house (plus I love that both mine sleep at the same time through the day... ME time!!)
My little man stopped his day sleep at 3yrs 4mnths (right when I needed it with a newborn!). He is now 4yrs 8mnths & goes to bed between 7.00-7.30pm and is up in the morning between 7.00-8.00am.
How funny, I was actually thinking this the other day. A friend of mine said that her 3 1/2 year old still has a sleep in the afternoon for over 2 hours & that just blew me away. My first wasn't having a day sleep at all by that age so I just thought that was really strange. Turns out like everything else with babies & motherhood, the old saying rings true "every baby is different".
My 3 1/2 yo doesnt have a day sleep, generally she goes to bed at 7:30 and sleeps to between 5-5:30 am I personally dont think this is enough sleep, and she is just foul most afternoons. About once a week or once a fortnight she will have a day sleep and sleep for 2-3 hours. We are trying to get her to sleep in longer in the mornings, but to no avail at the moment.
jack dropped his day sleep at 27mths we have had the occasional one since mainly if i sleep with him he goes to bed at 9pm wakes betwee8-9am some days he would sleep longer but I try to wake him by 9am if he doesn't wake himself so generally 11-12hrs http://www.ngala.com.au/files/files/...erns_chart.pdf
my 3 1/2 yr old has a day sleep of about 2 hours everyday and he goes to bed at 7 and sleeps till about 6- 6.30 . I dont think your little one sleeps too much, they all just have different patterns!!
My 3y9m DD1 has a 45min afternoon sleep at childcare (not at home though Grrr!) and she sleeps from 7.30pm to 7am most nights. I think they generally do still need about 12 hours a day in sleep at that age although there are are always exceptions.
My 3 1/2 DD still has a couple of hours sleep at about 12:30. (If I keep her up she is usually pretty nasty by tea time). DD2 usually wakes about 5:30-6am and all DD's are in bed by 7pm.
All kids do their own thing. DD1 used to be in bed early, sleep in and still have a lunchtime sleep!! Ah, those were the days.......I'd say enjoy your sleep in's: we no longer get them very often in our household!
My DD is 3 3/4 and has a two hour nap in the afternoons (from about 1pm-3pm). She doesn't nap at preschool (two days a week) and is often so tired the following day that she'll sleep over three hours. She goes to bed 7:30-8pm and is awake around 6:30-7am.
I also look after another boy (same age) every Friday, and while his Mum has little success getting him to nap he goes down without fail at my place for two hours, same as DD. Doesn't seem to affect him going to bed that night. He will do it some days for Mum too.
i shouldn't have read this thread.... its actually depressing, but maybe thats because i'm pregnant and exhausted and very very grumpy and have a very very active 2.5 year old.
*crosses fingers that next child is a good sleeper*
