Question How to continue exercising when pg

Mods, I'm not sure if this is the right spot to post, so feel free to move it.

I've been exercising heaps to loose my baby weight. I'm finally back to my post preg weight, and more toned too.

Now that we are thinking of TTC, and if I fall pg, should i continue with the same frequency and type of exercise? I've been doing a lot of circuit type exercise - weights and cardio.
I dont want to stop exercising and put on heaps of weight and that the same time, I want to maintain my level of fitness without endangering the baby.

those who have exercised before pg and during pg, could you advise please?

    Thanks heaps!!

I had mixed advice and just found it confusing. The old rule of thumb is don't get your heartbeat over 140bpm, but I've also read this isn't necessarily a problem.

The main issue you'll have is extra blood flow, so you may have to reduce the intensity, but you don't need to give it up. I found moving to low impact exercise helped with things like hip ache. I joined preggi bellies- they do all their exercises on a fitball. It's still very aerobic and you still use weights.

The other thing to be aware of is the risk of over stretching due to relaxin hormone in your body whilst pg (and for about 9 months after). Make sure you drink lots of water and stop if you've feeling dizzy, too hot etc.

Actually, exercise whilst pregnant is really important for your health and the baby's health. The stronger and fitter you are, the faster you'll bounce back and it can make labour easier.

    thanks tash, appreciate it
i did a lot of swimming and yoga w my first pg, but then I had a lot more time to do these outside work hours. Now it's hard as i have to rush home and spend time w DS.
I go to the gym during my lunch hour and am hoping to continue throughout my pg.
I remember abt the heart rate and water and stopping certain exercises.

When i do fall pg, I will talk to the instructor and get her to guide me...thanks heaps xoxo

I'm no expert but I was quite fit pre pregnancy with my first and wanted to maintain that as well. I was doing a weights class about 3 times a week and continued with that - just knocked some weight off every couple of weeks and bypassed the abdominal session. I also walked HEAPs - lots of hills and I believe that being fit helped enormously with labour (drug free induction).

    Good Luck
