Hi, I am having my first Ultrasound today.. But it seems they dont do the old gel on the belly and see whats inside anymore.. is this true!?
What should I be expecting? Do they really stick a massive pole with a camera on it up your hoo ha?
A little frightened now.. As we were just expecting me to lay on the table and get it done on the belly.
What is the norm for a first general ultrasound? It is not for the nuchal scan, just to make sure there's still a baby in there..

I don't think they will use dildo cam on you cos you are 10 weeks.
I might be wrong though.
ETA - it's not a camera hun. They will probaby use the old gel on tummy and dildocam if they can't get a good picture. But being 10 weeks I think the pics should be easy to get.

With my first pregnancy my first ultrasound at 9 weeks was transvaginal as they couldn't get a clear pic from the outside, but I was a lot heavier than with this pregnancy. All my US this pregnancy have been external....
It's not a huge pole either!! It's actually not that bad, and it's ummm easier if you just ask them if you can put it in yourself - but you may not need to so don't stress to much
Lol.. thanks girls.. got a bit frightened when I heard about "dildocam" as Im very self concious.. I know theres alot of this stuff in the pregnancy, but one less doctor down there is always good. Fingers crossed for a normal scan!

I had the transvaginal this time round, but not with the other two - and it was because I am heavier than the last two times and they couldn't get a strong heartbeat/picture. (I was shocked and embarrassed at the time, cause I don't even have a huge amount of belly fat or anything) But I know plenty of women who have had to have it...it's better to see that everything's ok and be a bit embarrassed for a few mins
I've had the internal version for both 12/13 weeks scans...not the most comfortable thing, but not the worst. It was done to get better views of bubs, cos even though things could be seen through tummy-cam, they got better measurements internally. Apparently.
well I unfortunately had to have the dildocam twice!!! I have a tilted uterus so had no choice for the first 2, but had another one at 10 weeks and it was just like in the movies, the gel through my belly. Having said that the internal one was much clearer
Thanks girls, ended up getting the "not so invasive" ultrasound done, still a little afraid in case next time they choose to do the dildo cam next time though..
Very interesting though.. the lady showed me my ovaries and falopian tube.. and my bladder, and she made bits of it go colour so we could see the kidney flushing water into the bladder.. very fast!

I am glad that it all went smoothly and dildo cam was'nt required I doubt very much that next time will be an issue, if all was clear viewing this time, next time bubs will be bigger again... By the time you get to birth, I doubt you will care??? the more bubs I have the less inhabitions I reckon
so glad that your US went well! congrats! i'm almost 18 weeks and not had the 'dildocam' at all - however do love the name! I have had a heap of US's already to check all is ok so hopefully you can avoid it. when i was trying to conceive i had an US to check my ovaries and they used one then but it wasn't so bad so don't worry to much if you end up having to use one at some stage...actually found it a relief as was so busting to pee!!! hahaha good luck with everything xo J

Sounds very interesting, I've never had any of that done. I'm sure your next one will not need to be internal either - bub will be nice and big and able to be seen easily by then.
If you don't want dildocam (or any other procedure) it's your right to ask for more info, ask for alternatives, and to just say no if you don;'t want a procedure done.
The internal scan (AKA dildocam ) is usually used in early pregnancy when it is more difficult to see the itty bitty little person - particularly if you have a retroverted (tilted backwards) uterus. It is used to get the closest image, and therefore the most detail for measurements etc, possible. After about 10 weeks there should be no reason for an internal scan.
