Question What on earth is she doing to her kitten???

Our 1 yr old cat had 3 little kittens just over 4 weeks ago... she is an AWESOME mummy cat!!!
She is just beautiful with them... they are just trying to get out of the highsided box!!

They are all fat little things that she watches like a hawk.. a great mummy.

Twice this morning she has taken the same kitten and dragged it around the house, dumping it in silly spots..... She hates the kittens even being out of the box, and she is really bad at carrying them in her mouth, they fall out the whole time.

Adam thought maybe she was marking the house with them??? I dont know though... it seems strange she would take one of them anywhere, she is wildly protective....

What is my crazy cat doing to this poor kitty???

She just did it again, to the same kitten!!!

She dumped it under the computer in the study, for the second time.

I took the whole box and moved it under there, is that what she wanted, to move the kittens into there maybe??
Shes jumped in the box to clean them for now..... she also carried it around the throat, not the back of the neck... she's acting very strange for her.....

Haha aww, my cat did this to her kittens, too! I was like, 'HEY WTH IS WRONG WITH YOU, YOU IDIOT?!' because she kept climbing up onto the dresser and dumping the one kitten (she had four, then three after one was put down due to a heart defect, but she always picked on the same kitten hahah) into the hallway (which confused me no end because the baby-gate was there to protect her and them from our dog and DD1).
Turns out, mummy cat thinks her kittens are getting big enough now to leave the nest and go exploring on their own. Or that's what I like to assume, anyway - the alternative is that she's turned into 'bad mummy' and is trying to ditch them hehehe. Try taking the kittens out of their box for short periods and let them stumble around in an open area, so they can get a taste of the big wide world Mummy cat should keep an eye on them and then take them back to their box when she thinks they've done enough wandering for one day HTH!! Congrats on the little kitties!!

Thanks guys.. I wondered if that particular one was sick, but it seems perfect.....

We have taken all 3 out together, and she sits by for about halfa, then takes them one by one back to the nest... shes really good normally....

I just read she might move them if she thinks there not safe, but they are in my closet.. the safest place, and nothing has changed.....

With 6 kids and another cat, I dont want her dumping them all around the house.....

I was wondering if that one is sick too. I like the idea of them exploring more though. Keep an eye on her and see what she does.

i would think it may be sick too Jodie - i have seen animals do this often - even a baby we think is healthy, mum can pick up things that aren't right - and will remove them
