I put a thread on sometime ago about softening my new ' stiff ' bedsheets and i got many recommendations for putting vinegar in the rinse cycle ...
My question is do i put it in the spray rinse or pre-wash rinse cycle that's on my washing machine dial (the pre-wash rinse cycle being the last cycle before spin dry)
If you put it in in the same way as you do fabric softner you should be ok. Do you normally put your fabric softner in the fabric sofner complartment of the machine or add it in during the wash?
Thanks ladies for your help ... I've never used fabric softener before so that's why i don't know which rinse cycle to put it into (??) ... i do have a fabric softener compartment to put it so know where to put it just don't know when !! ... Any suggestions (i just don't want my sheets smelling like a fish 'n chips shop, LOL)
I have a fabric softener compartment that adds it automatically to the last rinse before the last spin ITMS.
Shouldn't smell vinegar-y but if you are worried you can add some essential oils, I love lavendar & citrus, like lemon oils in with mine.
.... ah darn as it was going through the spin dry cycle thought i'd check to see if vinegar is still sitting in the compartment and it was ... so, my next guess it ' might ' be automatic like Jasp said and i'm now just starting the whole wash process again so the vinegar will hopefully go through the spray rinse cycle (cycle before the pre-wash rinse cycle) ... fingers crossed again and hopefuly the water rates man won't be after me for wasting a washing machine of water (nah my washing machine doesn't save the water from previous wash) ... oh, i feel so guilty when we have such tight water restrictions here but i'm desperate to get these sheets softened as i simply can't sleep in them, far too scratchy
Hmm, just a thought, if it's just to soften them & they aren't 'dirty' maybe try just running a cycle with vinegar in with the water ? No powder or liquid or anything, just water & vinegar, no compartments, just tip it straight in...
