Exclamation Do you have good posture?

I am making it my new years resolution to have good posture. As we get older I know its REALLY important to have good posture, but I read recently that bad posture can also cause bad pelvic floors! How bizarrre. It also stops... wait for it... double chins! And it can make you look slimmer and more youthful. So not only is it good for your health, it strengthens muscles and makes you look good! I'm in! My DD did ballet for a couple of years when she was in Kinder and she has the most gorgeous posture. I can remember my mother and grandmother always telling me to stop "Slouching" I never have to tell that to DD she just stand tall.

    So how is your posture?

Mine's not great, got much worse with a car accident I had nearly seven years ago. My physio at the time said the best way to correct it is to put your thumb at the base of your sternum & middle finger at your belly button. You have good posture when the distant is as far apart as it can go, the closer they are together, obviously, the worse it is. It helps to just check during the day because it makes you conciously sit or stand more upright.

Ugh, my posture is shocking, and I know it. The scholiosis doesn't help at all, but for the most part it's laziness and insecurity - I'm always unconsciously trying to shrink myself down and hide from people (IRL of course lol, nobody online can see how hideous I am hehehe). I do try to maintain better posture when I think of it, but I admit it's not often the thought occurs to me that I'm slouching.
*shoulders back* Thanks for the reminder, Rouge! Good resolution, I hope you can keep it up!

Well at the moment it's a bit tricky to maintain good posture with a huge belly out front! Normally my posture is quite good. It improved dramatically once I started Pilates and regained strength in my lower back and pelvic floor.

LMAO. Mine sucks as well. As I sit here with legs crossed and back curved, with chin resting on my hand, and same elbow on my crossed leg when I read posts LOL

Working on your core body strength by doing things like pilates helps also, as it strengthens your back muscles so you can hold a good posture better without it hurting.

Making sure you get regular massages helps so you don't have muscles that are stuck into positions that make it virtually impossible to keep you shoulders back, spine erect etc. also helps

I recently found out about bad posture affecting your pelvic floor too - and believe me it makes a huge difference. I started to see a physio about my pelvic floor thinking it was all about muscle strength - I'd been doing Pilates for years and couldn't understand why I still had a problem. Then I found out it wasn't strength at all, it was my sway back. Thanks to my strong Tranverse-abdominus muscles from Pilates it didn't take long to be able to change the way I stand to straighten my back more - and amazingly it has made a huge, huge difference. No more dreading sneezing - and I can even jump on a trampoline now!!
