    Anorexia - vent

    Hi,
My daughter (who has CP, ID & ASD) has always been very thin, when she was little she had a lot of problems eating and didn't really start to eat proper meals until she was 8yrs old (she is now 15yrs). She eats heaps, 5-6 large meals per day, but doesn't seam to put on weight. According to the doctor she is in proportion (height/weight ratio)

Over the last few days people have been telling me she looks anorexic and it is really upsetting me when I know how much she eats, but she just doesn't put on weight. I dont know how to make her put on weight but people are so critical - too thin/ too fat, do this do that, it is soo frustrating. I feel like I can never get it right.

I am due back at the peadiatrician in april again and also seeing endochronology in about 3 weeks.

I was like that as a teenager and early adult and would get people ask me if I was anorexic, so rude. People should mind there business. I had one woman once poke my bones at top rib cage!

It is SO RUDE when peopel think it's their business, especially when they wouldn't dare to comment "is she obese?!?!" if she were overweight. Why do people find 'too thin' ok to comment on but 'overwight' is taboo?

People with CP often need more food because their muscles just use up so much energy. If you and your daughter are happy that she is happy and healthy, that's all that matters. Try to let their comments flow off you.

to you and your daughter. People can be so cruel and make judgements when they really have no idea of the true situation.

You know the true situation and that is all that matters

It's tough, isn't it? If it isn't stares or comments about their behaviour, then people have to find something other to comment about.

Just smile and let it go. They haven't walked in your shoes, and they won't understand. As long as you know what you're doing is right, the opinion of the "man in the street" is unimportant.

    Thanks guys.
I think if it was just some stranger it wouldn't bother me but it is someone I consider family who is saying it. I have been thinking about it today and I think I have realised she is being picky about a lot of things lately, especially when it comes to my little miss. I appreciate her opinion and her support but I dont need her shoving her opinions down my throat.
Might need to take some time out for a little while I am thinking.

It's hard. I was anorexic and no-one noticed, I wish someone had cared enough to comment. If it's just the latest in a long line of mean-ness and you know your daughter eats, as well as the medical conditions behind it, just write it off. And the family member too, if you can!

The Doctor has just discussed that with me yesterday. I have started another thread about it.

Should be doing the blood test next week when we go back to RCH for the next appointment.
