    When at someone's house...

...do you shut doors? I'm interested as I find that when visting us, no one ever shuts the exterior doors when they're going in & out. We have pets that have never set foot outside & so we are quite pedantic about doors being kept shut. Most people coming to our house know this so I do find it a nuisance having to dash to the door that they've just left wide open all the time.
I guess because of this I always shut doors at other people's houses.
    What does everyone else do?

I leave it how I found it, if the doors are open I leave them open, if they're closed I close the behind me. In saying that though some places I shut the flyscreen doors (if the doors are open) because I dont want DD going outside

Yes, always. Your friends are being rude, especially if they know that you don't want your pets to get out. Imagine if a child went out the door with noone noticing. I think that it's common courtesy to leave things the way they are when you find them and if you're not sure then ask.

I always shut the door, but when we have people over at ours its always left open so I feel like I am always shutting it! same as with taking off the shoes, I always take my shoes off at peoples house's, and they all do too, but when they are at mine, they always leave their shoes on! I even have a sign saying please remove your shoes, and they still do it. Some people are just so rude and need to have more respect at other peoples houses!

I think leave it how you find it is a good rule. Only time I might leave a door open is if I'm going to the car to get something and won't have hands to open it...maybe?

Lol at the toilets, we are a door closed, lid down sort of family, and far out, doors open, lids up, seats up, it's not that hard! I suppose at the end of the day the state of the loo won't actually kill me.

I don't always take my shoes off - the inlaws tend to be a shoes off family, but my feet get so cold! But I usually ask - because I never really want to take my shoes off, so I don't do it automatically, but to be polite I check 'do you want me to take my shoes off', and if they say no then I can wear my shoes guilt free.

but also in saying that I hate flies in my house so I tend to shut doors everywhere to prevent them coming in as I would at home

I agree with the others I tend to leave the door as I find it, except when there is a wire door. I usually shut that one

My mum always has her doors open, and leaves them open here too which I hate. I leave her doors open...maybe I should start closing them

I leave doors how I found them, and if I'm not sure, i ask! Especially front & back doors, I think they definitely should be kept shut but some people like the leave them open? Same with the toilet lid if it's down when I go to use it I make sure it's down when I'm done!

You might have to loudly remind your friends often that you want the doors closed, and when you go to their houses ask them what they want, they might catch on that it's more important to you than they think?

The shoe thing is weird, i've never had anyone ask me to take my shoes off at their house. The only time I do take my shoes off is at mum's because I know I can be myself there!

If I walk through a door that was closed then I reclose it.. If it is open i leave it be.. Sometimes I also just ask.. It is just common courtesy

If someone has asked me shoes off/close doors then I KNOW that you do that every time at their house.

I do tend to remove shoes at houses anyway, but that's just cos I like "free" feet. Doors... as I find them usually. Loo lid is left down, regardless of how I find it. It's an unconcious action now.

My sister leaves her shoes on in my house (she visits once a year - but takes shoes off at Mum's house when she visits there!) and I ask her to remove them and put them by the front door. I also have no qualms in calling people back to shut doors etc when they leave them open. I'm not their mother!

:guilty: I hate open cupboard doors, and at my SILs I'm always closing the cupboard doors / drawers / flyscreens. In Brissie it was more acceptable to leave doors open, but in Melbourne it's a case of open doors = cold room, so I've learnt to close them!

I wish the constant flow of teenagers understood the importance of shutting the front door here!!! ...and the side gates ...and the driveway gates.... they seem to leave everything open! My 3yo bolts through them as soon as he sees they are left open too. And I am the one that gets the strange look when I have to chase my 3yo down the street or when my 3yo is returned to me by a neighbour. I wish everything was springloaded here and closed itself! I also have a pet chook to worry about!

At friends houses i remove my shoes if i see a row of shoes lined up near their door... or if they have lots of carpet. We mainly have floorboards so I don't ask anyone to remove shoes unless they are wet/muddy.
