    HELP!!! what do i do?

We adopted a dog a few days ago a very friendly little thing however today she has been dry reaching a lot and tonight has been vomiting a lot, i keep trying to give her water but she doesnt want it. She hasn't really eaten a lot since she has been here either.
Does anyone have any tips for a vomiting dog, anything i can do to help her?
    TIA

MrsS, I'm no vet. I can only tell you what I do for my girl when she is sick.

Firstly, how old is the dog? Do you know where he/she came from and if all it's vaccinations are up to date?

When my girl is sick, I give her bland food. Rice with some mince ensuring all the fat has been drained. I know a few years ago I gave her a sausage or two and the fat was too much for her body to handle. That was one expensive lesson. Another thing is sowntimes she'll cough a bit and be sick when a raw bone hasn't agreed with her.

Those two times she went off her food and had to go on meds and have the bland food.

The cough i'm not too sure about.

Another thing you could do is to check the dogs stools. If you go to the vet they'll most likely ask how often they have been going and what's it like.

    Hope your doggie is okay.

thanks CBG, im not sure how old she is but the RSPCA gave her some needles before she was allowed to go with us not sure if shes fully vaccinated though, saying that she does look like she was well looked after not that it means much!

Maybe its the fat thing she did have a few bits of sausage! i will give her some bland foods tomorrow and try keep her fluids up if she hasnt improved by the afternoon take her to the vets which i really cant afford but even though we have only had her a few days shes worth it

If she is from the RSPCA she'll be right with her vacs. I also think you'll be able to take her back there for a check up given she is only just re homed. It's been a while since I was involved in re homing a dog.

It could be a change in food that is not agreeing with her. But I'm not sure about the cough.

I'm sure the centre you got her from will be more than happy to help you.

Keep us posted on her progress, I hope she is okay

thanks, the only thing i can think of is that shes nervous being in a new home and new surroundings that shes making herself sick kind of like when a baby gets so upset over something they will make themselves vomit.
I'll ring up and see if we can get her in for a check up i never thought of that!

I would call the RSPCA you got her from just to let them know what is happening. Watch her stools for any blood. If there is blood then she needs to go to a vet straight away.

It may just be that she has a sensitive tummy to certain foods. I have a dog like that that cant have our left overs or egg as he has a very sensitive stomach from when he was sick as a puppy.

After he got really sick with parvovirus when we first got him, they recommended offering him plain chicken in very small pieces when we took him home.

    Hope sshe is okay

Give her lots of cuddles so that she feels loved and safe in her new home

The other thing that can cause dry retching and vomitting is having a tick. Make sure you check her all over for a tick, and if you are concerned bring her straight back to the RSPCA.

Hi there. The first thing that comes to mind is pancreatitis. It commonly happens around festivities as everyone is feeding the dog little tidbits of fatty foods (like sausages) which overloads the dog. It causes vomiting/dry retching and the dog is usually in a lot of pain in their abdomen. You would notice them pulling their tummy up and hunching over from the pain. It is a very acute thing in dogs and needs vet attention ASAP as they can die a very painful death from it. Anyway it is a severe scenario (although reasonably common really) but hopefully your doggie has already recovered. Let us know.
