cloth nappies for newborns - advice

    Hi There,

I have purchased Greenkids one size nappies for my baby who is due any day now (our first).

Looking at the nappies though they look quite big for a newborn and was wondering if I should purchase another brand that has a small size? Is it worth it as well as I can imagine they are not in them for very long ... I have been told bubs will be around 7pds as well.

Not sure what to do and would welcome any advice.

    Many thanks

    Hi There,

I have thought about pre-folds - just not really too sure on how they are done. I don't know anyone else that use cloth, so just going out on my own limb here.

I wonder if pre-folds for those first few weeks, while I am also getting the hang of baby may all be a bit too much initially until i get my confidence, but then again maybe I should just dive in.

I love the idea of cloth but love the simplicity of the pre-done cloth. That way my hubby and family can feel comfortable in using them as well.

    Thanks

My not so little newborn was a 9 and a bit pounder. He was still too tiny for my OSFM AIOs or pockets for ages.
I don't own any greenkids, but can you make the rise any smaller?

Nate is 11months old and still has his bumGs and HappyHeiny pockets on the smallest setting fir rise (he's not the biggest kid but he is nearly 1).

I found when he was really little that the really soft fitteds were the way to go, with a cover to manage that newborn poo. Ones like Tots bots, spunkybutts fitteds, Cute Tushies Bamboo delights. I do have BBH fitteds but they are better now - they were way too bulky on a NB.

There are plenty of websites out there that will give you directions on prefolds. One of the girls on here makes them and sells them and I'm sure she'd be more than happy to give you a hand. I can't recommend Maz's covers highly enough either.

They are really easy to get used to. Even DH manages and we've used cloth on both our kids. I didn't even prepare him, lol. I just bought them and told him that's what we were using. As long as I have them set up ready to go, he's fine. I jsut used to lay a fitted or a prefold in a cover and he'd know they wen't together. I found it easiest to do this off the line. I still do it. I just keep all mine ready to go in one or two of those tub trug thingys.

I was turned off OAFM because of that exact reason. Ive had small babies and found BBH bamboo's really big aswell and rather bulky.

I was shown prefolds and I have to say...for those first few months they were the bomb! quick and easy to use and even quicker to hang and dry. Invest in a clothes horse so you can throw them on straight out of the machine and then pop the whole lot outstide.

Prefolds masy seem a bit pricie in comparison BUT if you buy the right ones you are able to use them later on as extra boosters in your OSFM pockets ect, I use them still for my DD who is 3 as boosting in her covers at night. Prefolds use doesnt stop once their to small to wrap around bub.....they are so versitile and you'll keep them until your child is TT.

Good luck and please feel free to ask us anything

We used prefolds too until the girls were bit bigger. I also had some bubble bubs bambams which i LOVED!
I got a better fit with then compared to prefolds and they were great as night nappies as DD2 got a bit older. I guess they work out a lot more $$$ but if you had the money, totally worth it.
