i have a sore on my right breast due to DD's sharpe tooth rubbing when feeding and oh my it hurts! she only has one upper through with 3 more onthe way and im dreading them already, apart from making sure our attachment is ok (i have been making sure she has a wide open mouth before attaching) what else can i do?? shes not biting (yet) its just sitting on the same spot and aggrevating it each feed. i do have some lansinol (sp) but its out of date, should i bother putting anything on it or just leave it?? im worried it may get infected
You are right that concentrating on attachment is the best thing you can do. It can help to make sure the chin is right in close to your breast - this means the rest of her mouth has to do the right thing. in the cradle position tucking the legs right in around you often works. If you are still having trouble, maybe a change in position might help.
The best thing to do for the sore is a bit of milk after a feed and let it air dry. Is the skin broken? Bm has antibiotic properties so applying it after every feed is the best way to prevent an infection.
I hope it heals soon
And wow at it being so close to her first birthday already!!
Hey hun, sorry you're having this trouble . MR has great suggestions as always .
We went through the same thing when DS was getting his upper front teeth..........it was quite uncomfortable. Giving it time will help.........she will need to get used to feeding with her new teeth. And your areola will get used to the sensation too. In the meantime, you could try changing positions with each feed (as much as you can anyway) just to take the edge off. Lansinoh might not do much, but I know it helped my nipples when they were feeling overly-sensitive, if that makes sense. So if this persists it wouldn't hurt to try a bit (I personally wouldn't worry about it being out of date).
We also went through biting after the top teeth erupted it wasn't fun, but we got through it, with both nipples intact
thanks lovelies!! looks like im doing all i can, will just take some time to heal, im keeping a close eye on attachment, its during the night that im slack as im half asleep! will keep up the milk and air drying too!
I found pawpaw ointment helped heal a graze I got from my then two year old DD. The only other thing that helped with us was time, her mouth just needed to grow a bit to stop it somehow irritating the nipple.
That happened with DD and I was dreading every feed. I ended up buying nipple shields which DD hated and wouldn't attach. Finally, I cut them down really short so she was still feeling my nipple but the sores were covered, IYKWIM? It did take persistence, but was well worth the relief when she gave in and fed and they had time to heal.
i actuallly tried the nipple shields too but she hated them! i have found that today the sore is much better! just need to make sure attachment is good!
Even though it's cleared up, if it happens again I have a suggestion.... We had the same problem so I would feed (awkwardly) in a football hold until the sore cleared up, that way she could still feed but the sore wasn't being rubbed so much.
