A good friend of mine is on very high doses of prednisone and has turned into what she describes as a puffer fish. She said her skin is peeling and itchy and she is breaking out in stretch marks everywhere from the sudden swelling/puffiness. I want to get her some cream but don't know what to get. She has asked me for some advise as I am a nurse but I don't know what she can use that will give her some relief. Her Dr's are useless and can't recommend anything.
Has anyone got experience with this and what cream can you recommend?
I have been using pred at 20mg and TBH have never felt better, even lost weight, sorry your friend is going through this. i think there are some creams sold on BB?
I just used a normal moisturiser - St Ives vanilla one - because the smell was inoffensive. TBH I'm not sure if this is something that can be fixed with a cream - but she might do well to exfoliate veeeeeery gently in the shower and use a non-soap wash for cleansing.
The biggest protection? Sunscreen and avoiding sunlight moreso during the heat of the day ie 10 til 3. Predinilone increase your sensitivity to sunlight, so thing and fragile skin is a real side effect.
Normal Scent free moisturisers from the Ego range for exmple or even Dermaveen.
Your poor friend . I haven't had that experience, but I have used Dermaveen in the past (the moisturiser with the blue lid), and found it very helpful. It is a nice thick cream, that moisturises well and absorbs into the skin easily. And VERY soothing! You can get it easily from chemists. I HTHs, so nice of you to try to help your friend out
Thanks girls. She is on the high dose prednisone for a kidney rejection. She has had a very bad rejection and is on huge doses of anti-rejection drugs. Up until a fortnight ago it looked like she was heading back to dialysis. Its a long term thing (although not on this dose) I just wish there was something more I can do. I know she is using bio-oil which I told her I thought it wouldn't help the itch and dryness and is also using the Dermaveen. She is my age so its just horrid (and I think I have problems sometimes). I can't believe her kidney specialists dont have any advise except put up with it.
Oh gosh, how horrible for her. Um, can she try bathing in olive oil, or something similar? I'm sure that won't fix her problem, but anything that might help, right? I hope somebody has a suggestion that can really help her.......
