I bought a dinner set off ebay over the weekend and sent the seller a message asking when I could pick it up. A few minutes later the seller told me that she'd looked in the box and some of the items had been cracked. I emailed back asking how many because I only wanted the set as spare parts for mine and told her i'd be happy to buy it depending on how many had cracks in them.
This morning I've got a message from ebay asking me to cancel the transaction. I've dealt with ebay for 7 years, both selling and buying and in that time I've never come across a transaction being cancelled after the auction finsished.
The thing is that I'm prepared to buy the unbroken bits if she'd only tell me what is broken and what isn't.
Has anyone done this before? If I cancel the transaction can the seller and I still leave feedback?
If you both agree to cancel the sale, then it's no problem. I've had this happen to me. A guy said a side board i had one was in Berwick to pick up. I wanted to go get it the next day and he said it was in Albury!!! So we agreed to cancel the transaction with no negative feedback.
TBH i can't remember if you still leave feedback when it is cancelled though.....
If you agree to cancel the transaction i dont think you will be able to leave feedback, i won a phone/fax pretty cheap and they cancelled it after it had finished saying she didnt know her partner listed it elsewhere what choice did i have really? I cant make them give me the address to pick it up from...sucky situation! i wasnt able to leave feedback in that instance?
Very similar thing happened to me just now - I bid on a gliding chair this morning, logged on to raise my bid, and saw that the seller was cancelling all the bids because she saw two tiny stains on the cushion today I would have won the auction too! I checked the bid history, and I had the highest bid
While I think its a bit rude to have ignored your request to proceed despite knowing this, it is increasingly hard as a seller on ebay. Since they lost the right to Neg, Buyers - and rightfully so I should say - are expecting exactly what they bid on and are no longer afraid to tell it like it is.
So yeah, especially with Tenibears, she had no way of knowing if when you got it and saw those two tiny stains that you wouldn't neg her for not mentioning it in the auction.
Granted in some cases they could be using this as an excuse to not sell it because they are not getting what they want for it, but I prefer to give people the benefit of the doubt, simply because either way, they are not sending it so there is no point stressing about it.
