Hi Traylee
Your AFI is at the upper limit of normal but not at a dangerous level. Also I would expect that your AFI levels will start to fall over the next week or so. However your doctor may want to keep a closer eye on the AFI levels for the rest of your pregnancy.
im hoping so, the drs here arent very good and dont pay much attention so i am bit concerned but i have a antental check on mon so im gonna ask and also tell them i want more scans etc,
i havent heard back from my gd test which was taken a week ago, so im guessing thats not it,
but what about sugar, i read somewhere that could be it,
and i have been eating alot of suagry lollies, so im thinking maybe i should stop havig them lol
There are a few things that can cause an increase in AFI however at the moment yours is not too high. Lots of sugar is not good for anyone perhaps cut down a little on the lollies..... if you can
thats heaps for your help im glad i can kinda talk to someone, i was in tears with stress over it last night all these ppl saying there is 16.
but i think they said normal range is between 5 and 25 but im not sure.
im hopin it will go down, i will ask the hospital on mon and show them and tell them i want another scan in like a week or something to check.
sd ratio was 3.1 is that high or bout normal, does it drop as u get further along cause my daughters was 2 at 36 weeks
Hi Traylee
Your SD ratio should be below 3.5 so you are well within normal limits. I can't remember if it drops as your pregnancy progresses perhaps someone else can answer this part of the question
thanks again
this may be dumb question, but can drinking to much water cause high levels of AFi,
i pee alot whether i drink alot of water anwyays i just try drink alot more now caue i was worried about low levels,
also i heard somewhere someone said soemthing about salt doin it, not that i have alot of salt,
also i have you no bit of swelling in feet due to being really hot in hervey bay so can the extra bit be due to hot weather and carrying extra fluid or does it not work that way
Drinking too much water could possably have an effect on your AFI. But you should be drinking somewhere between 2 and 3 litres a day as a minimum and perhaps more on hot days or if you are a very active person. So drinking too much water, for most people, would be difficult.
Lots of salt is not good for anyone and can cause fluid retention. However a small amount of salt in your diet is needed to help keep your muscles working correctly. In most cases you would be able to get the amount of salt needed from the foods you eat without the need to add salt.
Hot weather does not have any effect on your AFI. All pregnant women carry extra fluid. For some women the amount of fluid in your body can increase by as much as 80%. The hot weather can contribute to your feet swelling especially if you are on your feet for a good part of the day. A few tips to help reduce the swelling are:-
When sitting do not cross your legs/ankles.
Exercise your feet as often as you can by scrunching up your toes. Making circles with your feet.
If sitting for long periods of time make sure that you go for a short walk every hour or so.
You could even raise the foot of your bed a little so that when you are sleeping your feet are higher than your heart.
