    Question Sunken fontanelle?

When I got DS up this morning I noticed that his fontanelle (well, what's left of it) is quite noticably sunken. He has a slight cold at the moment - but his only symptoms are a snotty nose and a slight cough. He hasn't had a fever or shown any other signs of feeling unwell.
He has been sleeping a bit more than usual however, and where he usually wakes 2-3 times a night for feeds, last night he only woke once.

I've given DS a feed this morning, but he must have finished cause he pushed me away. I've been offering him water, but he's not interested. He seems otherwise fine - he's alert, playing happily, skin supple, etc.

Should I be worried, should I take him to the doctor? Or should I just make sure I keep offering drinks and keep an eye on him?

I'd probably just keep an eye on him for now. Keep his fluids up & see how he goes tonight & tomorrow.
If anything worries you though, have it checked out. If only for peace of mind

    Thanks for your reply Clover.

He seems perfectly fine, so I'm not really worried I suppose - but it did freak me out a bit when his fontanelle felt so sunken.

I was told a sunken fontanelle was a sign of dehydration and considering he is sick that would make logical sense to me. As suggested, keep hid fluids up,m if your concerned then a trip to the Drs is in order.

    hoping he feels better soon

My DD's used to go up and down at various times during the day. Once I made a Drs appt in the morning, only for it to be perfect a few hours later! Is it the same all day or does it go up and down like my DD's did?

Keep offering him fluids and watch what it does. It could be one of those mystery things, but if it stays sunken then maybe get him to the Dr JIC

I've also heard about it being a sign of dehydration. I would offer lots of fluids (as I'm sure you are doing) and see how it goes for the rest of today. If you are really worried though, head to a doctor.
    I hope he gets better.

Thanks. He had a pretty big breastfeed this morning, and has had a couple of sips of water. He's not a big wee-er anyway, but his wees are the same as usual.

TBH I don't check his fontanelle very often - I just happened to check it this morning because he'd slept in (which he never does) and as he already has a cold I was just checking him over. I'll keep an eye on it throughout the day.

I agree with all the other posts. Just keep an eye on it for the next couple of days and offer plenty of fluids
