Making your own Hot Cross Buns!

Has anyone made their own hot cross buns at home before? Was it reasonably easy?

I have a recipe I want to try...... thought it would be better than buying the one's at Woolies or bakeries as they have all that added junk in them (additives etc!) plus they are quite expensive too.

Oh I want to try some too! I died some eggs yesterday too, to try and get into the Easter theme beyond chocolate.

I have been thinking about this over the last week and I keep forgetting to look for a recipe... I actually thought about it again earlier today and was going to post on here, but yet again forgot .

I look forward to hearing how you go (and anyone elses experiences).

I don't think they're very hard to make.

I had my first try at making my own hot cross buns a couple of weeks ago. I found the recipe in the booklet that came with the bread maker. I was so proud of myself after I'd made them. Lol.

The other night I thought I'd try making chocolate chip ones from the same recipe but changed a couple things around. They were so awesome! I'm definately going to make them again too!

Good luck with yours. I hope they turn out fantastically!!

I have made them before and found they were easy. I am not much of a cook. I just found it time consuming

I have, but like any bread, they don't turn out the same as bakery ones. Perhaps if you have a bread maker with the dough function to knead it well you might be okay.

We made them at school, and it was quite a bit of fun and can't have been too difficult
Have fun, hope they work out!

I'm going to try the recipe from Taste website! They usually have some good recipes on that website! It doesn't look too hard.... not too many ingredients either. I get turned off recipes if they have too many ingredients in the list haha!

Might try this weekend..... will let you know how it goes!

Anyone else who makes some let us know how it went!!

I posted A dairy free one, can't remember if was in seasonal or dairy free. You can obviously make them non dairy free, very easy and delicious!

Sent from my iPhone, more than likely while I should be doing something else!

kids love baking right, well my 4yo does (rarely happens, so a huge novelty for her)

so i thought, right, one day of 5 day break, we will make hot x buns

found a recipe in a New Idea, ripped that out, made sure i had the ingredients.

the only thing they asked for, that i had to go and specially buy, was dry yeast.

so, we started making them 11am Saturday morning.

got the (one) batch finished at

    6.30pm!!!!

Yes, 7 and a half hours it took us.

tried four times to get the yeast to activate
ended up using the fourth attempt (even though it didn't activate)
so got low, dense buns, instead of light fluffy ones (cos of faulty yeast)

if it wasn't for the kind people on my FB page, no buns would have happened at all.

beginner cook + recipe that assumes baking knowledge = ARGH!

so 4yo and i were grumpy, irritable all day, for a thing, we thought would be easy and fun.

it was presented as an easy thing to do - hmph. i think cooking with yeast, is in a catergory all of it's own. People that make bread already, i think would find it much easier.
